Mirror defrost possible without rear window defrost?

Title sums it up. I did some searching and can’t find this mentioned before.

Rear window motor has been unplugged due to my wife denting the outer skin of the hatch, thus not allowing the window up and down. Wife absolutely hates how she often hits the rear window switch by accident and thus doesn’t approve spending money to fix the issue. So that’s a dead effort. Money is tight anyhow as she’s been out of work recovering from brain surgery.

The defrost system doesn’t like that fact and won’t let the mirror defrosters turn on.

Is there a way to bypass that so the mirrors get heat? Perhaps reroute the power wires for the mirror defrosters and install a separate switch?

Wife dents truck.

Wife can't properly operate window switch.

Wife won't approve spending money to fix it.

Your problem isn't the truck.

NICE! DH!

OP, can you remove the lift gate panels and push out the dent enough so the window operates? Temporary fix, but may help your situation.

This is probably your easiest solution.
The process is very easy and would probably take you less than 15 minutes unless the whole hatch is caved in .

Reconnect the wiring at the window motor. Disconnect the rear window switch in the center console.

I have had my rear window switch disconnected at the console since like a week after purchase. Dogs like to stand there and end up cracking the window, which then sucks in tons of dust. My rear defroster and mirror defrosters work normally.

Put some black gorilla duct tape or electrical tape over the switch.
