Does Stealerships install non OEM headlights?

Looking to swap out OEM stock ones with Morimotos, including the fog lights. It's fair to assume Toyota dealers will/cannot do the work because the parts aren't OEM Toyota, correct?

I would not make that assumption. Many dealers will install aftermarket parts for you especially nowadays when they may be hurting for business due to COVID. They may just make it clear that they don't warranty anything non-OEM. My dealer installed my Bilstein 5100's and rear spring spacers for me. Call your dealer and ask.

It's really not that difficult of an install though to do yourself.

Yeah man, for sure. I figured that might be the case...will make some calls today. Unfortunately I do not have tools, space nor time to do the install myself...sometimes its better to pay someone else to do the work for you if it's worth it and to me, it is

I'm just more concerned about them doing it right in regard to calibrating headlights correctly where it's not going to blind oncoming drivers after they finish the install. They don't print out reports for these kind of things, right? Just the balancing of tires, lifts, etc but headlight calibration reports doesn't exist I'd think.

I suppose I can "check" their work after the fact to see their leveling job

What year is your 4Runner? If it is a more recent model with LED lights, you can re-sell them for a reasonable amount to people that want the OEM LED (which are very good lights.)

Ask your dealer but generally they do not like to install aftermarket parts you provide and will only install the junk lifts they are pushing. Also you will pay more to have the dealer do the work if they end up accepting the work.

Dealers are not hurting for business during COVID Our dealer is booked 3 weeks out for service and all cars towed in are being told they’ll get to it when they get to it. Because of the shortage of new cars and high used car prices you’d be surprised how many people are spending a pretty penny to keep their current car on the road, add to that the shortage of qualified techs and it’s a real shit show right now. At least it is here in SoCal.

They’ll install anything, may state there’s no warranty or OEM fit.

FWIW, the headlights are the easiest thing in the world to adjust yourself if you have a Phillips head screw driver. Park about 20 ft. behind a car on the road, pop the hood and adjust the low beams until they are just below the rear view mirrors of the car in front of you.

My dealer here in Carlsbad sells new from the lot with aftermarket parts. They outsource the suspension work but they do warranty it.

I don't trust a dealership to handle a simple oil change... Let alone install a pair of ~$1000+ headlights!

I'd find a local member willing to help out if you're not comfortable tackling the job yourself. Or another shop besides the dealer that has experience working on 4Rs. Once installed, beam height adjustment is super easy to do yourself as mentioned above.

have you tried calling the dealership ?

its a simple install too, it took maybe 30 minutes taking my time. There are some good write ups on it too with photos

I don't remember if it was here or in the 4Runners of Washington FB group, but there was one guy that bought a brand new 4Runner and the dealership swapped in some drop-in aftermarket LED bulbs as an "upgrade"

it is dealership specific and depends what it is. I had my toyota dealer order aftermarket rims for me and they installed them without a problem (parts dept. needed to confirm compatibility first). If I walked in with those rims I still think they would install it. If I walked in with an arb compressor they'd tell me to pound sand. I'd say headlights are a 50/50 shot. 100% won't warranty the work

there are reasons why dealers don't always like installing non OEM parts, and of course people will complain about that. I wonder if those same people bring their own steak to a restaurant and ask the chef to cook it lol

Think you're taking things bit too literal on the internet.
