Yearly Detail?
How often do you guys get your 4Runners detailed... if at all? My rig is nearing its birthday and I was thinking of getting it professionally detailed.
Thoughts? Opinions?

For whatever sealant they use after the paint correction, ask for a maintenance product to make it last. whether its a spray on wax as you dry, or a type of ceramic coating compatible sealant (Spray on Silicon sealers are so hawt these days). It'll extend the life of the sealer, and provide a sacrificial barrier.

exterior - wax spring and fall. wash maybe 4-5x a year. I don't do any washing during the winter months (nov - march). I have a couple fine paint brushes and touch up paint to take care of any stone chips.
interior - I vacuum the interior regularly but never detail it. I don't condition the leather or anything like that, I've never felt the need to but I don't eat or drink in the vehicle so don't have to worry about spills. never needed to shampoo the carpet because I have mats on the floor that I clean every so often. canvas back in the rear for home depot runs + misc hauling, easy to clean that as well
a professional detail that uses proper product and technique will be expensive. I just don't get my rig dirty enough inside or have many blemishes on the outside that justify me spending a few hundred $ for a detail

In July, 2019 I bought my silver ‘18 SR5. Two months later, I was four wheeling and got it badly pinstriped. I buffed it out with Scratch X and a drill mounted buffer pad supplied with the kit, then waxed the body below the glass.
In December 2020, after a short local upland game hunting trip, the rig was filthy inside and out. I spent two days hand washing, cleaning the interior and waxing the entire rig.
During this past summer, I had purchased acreage and used my 4Runner as a pickup and a tractor while developing it. Grading driveways with a drag I made years ago with a length of railroad rail, hauling supplies and materials. Filthy inside and out. I think I blew off the cabin air filter a dozen times before I finally replaced it a month ago after all that dirt work was done.
I went on a local upland game hunting trip yesterday, getting plenty of pinstriping. My normal route is close to home in one of the local mountain ranges and involves a 3,000 foot altitude raise over a steep, narrow and heavily eroded trail with heavy sagebrush and juniper growth that scrapes the sides of my 4Runner. A couple of spots the ATRAC comes in handy in places where the trail climbs out of the canyon bottom over loose ground with large rocks and bedrock so to avoid old washouts. There are numerous springs that issue forth out of the trail, or their streams run along it for some distance. Usually this trail is snow covered by now, but after a wet and snowy October, November was dry except for some light dustings and showers.
I haven’t washed my rig since December 2020. I have taken my air hose, shop vac and a spray bottle of diluted Purple Power to the interior several times in the interim. I also remove the Toyota accessory 4Runner all weather mats and cargo cover out and spray them down and let them dry. I generally take my carpet shampooer with furniture attachment to the interior at least once annually.
My rig sits outside 24/7 and here in the northern Nevada high altitude desert even sitting in the driveway it gets dusty. I routinely travel maintained dirt roads, occasionally off roading my rig. Rain, snow and muddy roads make washing pretty much irrelevant. Money spent on coin op washes are rendered invalid within a few miles of leaving the car wash. Home washing is a pain in winter with fighting frozen hoses and ice forming in the puddles created by washing. So I focus on the interior instead. I don’t like seeing it dirty.
There are several detail shops in town, but I live miles out of town. It’s tempting to get my rig detailed as if nearly new for a new start, but I’ll pass. Too little and too short lived reward for so much money.
Before I bought my 4Runner, I had a 2002 Tacoma TRD 4x4 that I bought new. It was white. I liked white, because it was a good color for “planned neglect.” It was never waxed, seldom washed. I lived a half hour north of where your photo was taken back when I bought it. I gave it to my adult son when I bought my 4Runner and it’s still looking good, even with its planned neglect.

my 4runner is to new to know what my interval will be. But i detailed it and coated it with cquartz after picking it up from the dealer and am testing out griots garage new 3in1 ceramic spray as a topper to maintain it. My other vehicles with ceramic coat are on a two year schedule for exterior.

I try to claybar, polish, and wax twice a year. Once or twice I’ve skipped the claybar and polish and just used a cleaner/wax. I also clean the engine bay with simple green and a hose.
Last year, I spent a couple weeks doing a thorough interior/exterior cleaning including removing some panels, the blower assy, and doing an AC evap treatment.

I detail my 4Runner my self in the spring and fall and use Graphene Spray Wax since its super easy and lasts a long long time. Surprisingly its resistant to off road scratches too.

On my last truck I Used meguaires ultimate synthetic wax (sealent) 3 times a year..I use ultima waterless wash once every two weeks after running it thru the wash.. then D156 spray wax after the waterless wash..polish once a year! I’m not letting this dang thing rust .. I also use fluid film on underside and inside door panels, hood, fenders, and rear hatch. I bought it as a snowfighter, not as an offroader!

Never. I spray it off at coin op car washes when I need to work on it and don't want to eat any more dirt than necessary.

i wash it when strangers start drawing happy faces and dicks with their peasant fingers in my dirty paint.
I did wash the car the other day, mainly because the uniballs were starting to squeak...so off to the coin wash i went.

Oh man, once they start, they never stop. I have a toolbox drawer full of COM10T and WSSX16T spherical bearings.

I used to detail my black car with white wheels back when I used to go to car shows. It just takes too long now a days. I guess paying a professional detailer is more for the convenience.
PS: I used to be that crazy person...Im just lazy now lol

I might have to give that a try. I clean the car every other week but I notice more blemishes after every wash.. which I know is normal.
Just want to see a reset I guess as it once was off the lot or at least close
