5th Gen 4R Compared to the 2022 Explorer/Aviator - 4R 6th Gen is Here
I recently went to a couple Ford dealerships and Lincoln dealerships to look at the Explorer and the Aviator. I was really impressed.
The 5th Gen with its bad paint and glass, awful color selection, terrible fuel economy (19 mpg on the HWY wth ?), 1994 technology 4 wheel drive, lack of a reverse monitor, no automatic steering, I could go on and on, is sad. After seeing these Fords and Lincolns I cant see why most people would even consider a 4Runner anymore. Look out Toyota.
To be clear, the 2020-2022 Explorer and the Aviator are what TODAYS 4Runner should be NOW and the 6th Gen 4Runner must more. Who knows when or if it will even come out. I predict the new 4Runner will be a flop if it falls short of this. The 4Runner is way way behind in features compared to the other SUVs in its class. The next generation will need to be a huge leap forward to even be competitive.
If I was buying a new vehicle today I would probably buy an Explorer XLT or above. Aviators are beautiful vehicles however they are more expensive.
The Lincoln Aviator is extraordinarily nice.

*Center consoles is too wide imho
*Styling is far more appealing than the 4R/Lexus stuff.
*Less expensive than the 4Runner
*LED everything
*10 speed transmission

Yet, you bought a '20 4runner... I would think you would know exactly why people buy the 4runner. I could have bought whatever I wanted even at higher price range (x5, Q7, Cayenne) or any of the American options in the 50k price range.
Yet, I bought my '21 4runner fully aware of it's outdated drivetrain and features... So, why did you? There were plenty of other options with way better drivetrain and feature in 2020.

Real question. If you were looking for a feature rich, independent front and rear suspension, modern SUV. How the hell did you end up in a 4runner?
Like every other thread you've started on how much you dislike your 4runner, take advantage of the market and sell it. Move on.

Those compare more to the highlander. A lot of 4runner owners should have bought highlanders imo...

I really like the new Explorers but in my eyes they are more of a car than a SUV due to the lower ride height, ground clearance and AWD. I wanted real 4wd and offroad mod options so I went with the Runner. The gadgets are nice but I can add what I want to my Runner. The extra power is nice but the turbos are more parts to fail and I'm not driving a race vehicle.

Do Jeeps have automated steering, reverse monitoring, adaptive cruise control, front collision avoidance, etc? Do you think jeep owners complain that the next-gen jeep looks just like a 2002 jeep? (These are real questions, btw)

Sounds good, but it's a FORD and you know what that stands for! And they tend to live up to that.

Have 4Runners EVER been on the bleeding edge of technology? Hell, my 2015 4Runner didn't have automatic headlights (neither does my 2019), whereas my 2005 F150 did. If anyone buys a 4Runner to have the latest tech, good fuel economy, 10-speed transmission, etc. then they are barking up the wrong tree.

It sounds like it's time for the OP to sell his 4Runner.

Huh. If I were to go to a Ford dealership, only thing I would be looking at is a Bronco Squatch. None* of that cuckhold shit you mentioned matters to me. Obviously you should have purchased a Highlander or Rav4.
I want to know about diff lockers, gear options, wheel travel, RTI scores, skid plates, clearance angles, sway bar disconnects, transfer case gearing, tires
*Except engine, the T4r motor is reliable but pathetically underpowered by modern standards.
