Isn't that what every other automaker has been doing since the beginning of time?

You can get yourself in an awful lot of expensive trouble using parts that have flunked QC.

They're not talking about accepting hoods from stamping with a huge dent in them or brakes that "sort of work." What they are talking about is accepting a muffler with a cosmetic defect out of site of the customer that does not affect proper operation or longevity. Or maybe a speck of dirt in the paint - on the underside of the hood. Some mold flash on the back side of an interior part would also fall under the new definition. 99.9999% of Toyota customers will notice absolutely not difference at all. I highly doubt that Toyota's legendary high quality will waver even a little.

I actually think that this is a very reasonable step to take in the current supply chain environment, where companies are struggling to get parts.

Lets be honest, these parts that will now be accepted by Toyota will still likely be of a higher quality than the average equivalent part of a RAM/Fiat or GMC/Chev vehicle. I've literally sliced my finger open on the edges of dashboards and trim pieces on a few Jeeps and trucks i've owned, or been a passenger in, so obviously those parts met QC standards in those factories.

GM is a lot better than it was 10 years ago. I had a 2019 Trail Boss that honestly had much better initial quality than my 4Runner. I traded it with 15,000 miles, so I don’t know the long term, but the 5.3L V8 is pretty bullet proof. It did have a very faint clunk in the rear end coming to a stop sometimes, but I figured the shaft probably needed to be greased or something simple. The interior was silent, which is absolutely not the case with my 4Runner. Interior quality is night and day in favor of the Chevy.

Never owned a Jeep, Dodge, or Chrysler. Never will either.

GM couldn’t build an interior to save their life until about 2015.

Once they mastered that, unfortunately the motors went direct injection. IMHO they got worse after about that time. Both 5.3 and 6.2. And lifter issues. And transmission issues with 8L90, 10L100, all crap. Joint venture was a mistake.

Give me a 6 speed Allison. Give me about a ‘05 Duramax. Even an 8.1L.

Ironically Chryslers have been great. 1995 JGC 4.0L, 1999 Durango 5.2L, 2004 Durango 5.7L. All over 220k miles. Only complaint is the newer Durango started draining batteries when I tried to put a factory nav unit in it. My fault shouldn’t have tried to buy one off of Facebook Marketplace LOL

Now the 42RE last 225k before rebuild, 44RE at 290k all original, and 545RFE is at 227k all original. I don’t tow anything so that might help.

I agree about the GM interiors, but am happy with the 6.2 LS3 & Tremec TR6060 in my 15' Camaro SS/1LE. (this will be the last GM vehicle that I'll ever own) The 16' & up LT1's have more HP & TQ, but the Direct Injection is just another maintenance cost.
