switch from '21 to '22?
So I'm now debating if I should do a switch from my '21 TRD Pro to a '22 model. Reason being for the added features such as BSM and cameras and the fact that it might be the very last model year as a true 4Runner (no hybrids or turbos or 4cyl, etc). Also, I can sell mine at a premium, so much that it can pay for the new one and still have a few grand left in the pocket.
This sounds too good to be true and a no brainer...Am I missing something here?
Quick example, they are selling used '21 TRD Pro with around 10k for around $80k Cdn. A brand new one, such as the one I ordered a few months ago sells for $67k Cdn now. Big difference!

If you truly are going to make 10k why not? Unless I'm missing something?

That's what I'm thinking, I'm sure there will never be a time like this again.

It's a strange time in the auto market. If you can sell yours for over MSRP and get a dealer that will sell you one at MSRP (eventually) then there's no reason not to do it (unless taxes and registration are astronomical in your area). It mostly hinges on if your situation allows you to float the time between vehicles.

Well I was just told by the dealership, its going to be a 9 month to a year wait time! That's super long...but either way, if I do order, I can always back out if it doesn't work out the way I want it to, doesn't cost me anything in the end.

I'm trying the same thing w a 2019. Ordered a 2022 2 months ago. Dealer said he'd give me $52K when I signed, so new car cost would be $1-$2k.
Current estimate is 3-5 more months wait.
I've been tracking the price of Pros in my area (PNW) and they've dropped about $1k the last two months.
So I expect that the only way for this to work is to find Pro now that's available, since prices will have sorted themselves out by next spring/summer.

Problem is if you find one that's already on the dealer lot, chances are it will be marked up big time. That's why ordering new yourself is the best way, but might take too long to arrive...long enough until all this sorts out, who knows at this point...

Exactly. So it’s a race to see if used prices hold long enough for new vehicle to show up.

If you can back out, so can the dealer, as they insist on a markup that equals the inflation premium we are seeing on all vehicles today. MSRPs will also adjust over that period. If customers are willing to pay $80K Cdn for a used vehicle, they are willing to pay $85K Cdn for a new one, and if customers are willing to pay $85K for a new one, the dealer won't sell you one for $70K.
If you want to do a deal like this, have a lawyer look at the contract, make sure the deposit is an initial payment, the final out the door price is locked in, neither party can walk away from the deal, there is a time limit for delivery and a penalty for non-delivery.

FWIW we came from a 2019 Tacoma so the 22 T4R is just getting tech we had in that. But I will say that the multi terrain cameras, while certainly not HD, are a very cool feature that we love. BSM doesn't hurt either. If the you're not paying anything extra out of pocket the 22 has great tech that you'll love.
