Opinions on 2020 Limited…about to buy

I recently sold my 2008 Limited V8. It’s time to get a new car, and I am leaning towards a 2020 Limited with 12,000 miles on the odometer. I know the design is getting a little long in the tooth, but it’s all new to me at its been so long since I got my 2008.

I am looking for any opinions you might have on reliability, off-road prowess, safety, comforts, or any other facets of the 2020 model year. Am I better off looking for a 2021 or 2022? Or older? Any common issues I should know about? Any reliability issues that would warrant me spending a couple extra thousand dollars on extended warranties?

My only real complaint so far about the interior features is the lack of Apple CarPlay and the nav head unit that cannot be replaced with aftermarket. I suppose I can live with both of those.

I have resigned myself to getting something now because I don’t have the ability to wait, and multiple Toyota dealers in my area have all said the vast majority of trims on the 2022s are no longer in production because Toyota cannot source parts and will not except any reservations or orders. Limited is my preferred trim because it is a daily driver and I frequently tow around my family Who prefer comforts and features over utility; so the TRD trims are not as ideal. The limited should be my off-roading requirements.

I had a 2018 Limited and liked it well enough. I did trade it for a 21 TRD OffRoad tho as I wanted those features more than the Limited features. Just so you know the 2020 head units can be replaced tho not as easily as older years. also the 2020 should have Carplay.

The limited drives very nicely on road and is more than capable enough for 90% of people's off road needs. Having carplay is a huge plus in my book. Besides suspension (XREAS), 20" wheels a few creature comforts, the limited is very similar to the TRD trims.

As far as reliability, the fifth gen is about as bullet proof as you can get. I wouldn't expect any big issues. If you really want an extended warranty, there are many dealers that sell them at extremely reasonable costs (I think my last 7/75 was $551?).

Outside of that, just look for the standard stuff - rust, signs of abuse and so on.

CarPlay IS on the factory head unit? Interesting. I synced up my phone to the car at the CarMax dealership but didn’t see CarPlay anywhere, nor did iOS prompt me to ask about using it. Hmm. Good to know if it’s buried in there…somewhere.

$559 is extremely reasonable for a warranty. I think my 7/75 from the Toyota dealer I bought the 2008 from was well over $2000. I’d pay $559 in a heartbeat.

Yeah, the 2020 should have CarPlay. It's a deal-maker for me for sure. I have another Toyota without and regret not buying a more recent model with it.

Its wired carplay. Need to use a USB cable or add a wireless adapter.
