Seeking Useless knowledge...

Why does 4Runner instrument cluster display Park, Drive, Reverse (P, D, R.. etc.) with small cracks/lines through the letters? It does not appear Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Tacoma have.

It's a variation of the seven segment display like you see on old digital alarm clocks. It's a cheap method to display what you need when you have a very small finite number of figures to display (P,R,N,D,S1,S2,S3,S4) in small given area.

The newer models make use of the full 4.3" LCD panel so they have more flexibility in the design.
