The down and dirty-
I’m the market for a ‘22 T4R after regretting selling my ‘14 for a 100 Series LC.
Good move for a guy who wants to look cool in the pick up line of my kids school, but not that practical. Needed a lot of work.
I’m patient, so I know I will find one, but I’m wondering how hard I should really try to find a TRD OR instead of an SR5.
I know the SR5 was plenty capable for my needs, but don’t want to regret spending $40k instead of $43k down the road.
I know the crawl control and locking diff are wonderful to have, but I never found myself in a situation where A-TRAC wasn’t enough. Am I wrong to think that Crawl Control is for people that are going on quite a bit more gnarly roads than what this flatland Midwesterner will do?

I had a '20 Pro that got stuck in the snow with all the off road tech. Nothing got me out. When I was in the market for another 4R, I knew the majority of the stuff I do the SR5P would be plenty.

How deep was this snow? And were you running KO2?

I went with the ORP for a few reasons. I loved the interior. I just think the all black and carbon fiber stuff looks great. I wanted the manual 4x4 shift knob. I dig the stock design, I got the nautical blue and the silver bumper pieces look great on it. Of course you can't forget about the hood scoop lol. Mine will see very little trail time, but it is just what I wanted.

Pretty deep. 8-10" and I was running the shitty Nitto's. It was amazing in our epic storm in February with AT3's, but I never needed more than 4H.

Funny I actually chose the SR5P because I didn't like the piano black trim pieces on my Pro. I liked the beige interior and will definitely appreciate it in the Texas summer. I also got the Nautical Blue and liked the color matched bumpers. Also glad I don't have a hood scoop. Then again I would have taken one just like yours, but there was not much inventory.

I know, it's more money but there is always the "wish I would have" thoughts later down the road.
Order exactly what you want. I place my build order on November 2nd and took delivery on December 6th. Five weeks to the day.
It will be worth the wait.

That is good to know! I may be going the ordering route!

For sure and that's definitely an option!

No, you don't need a locker. You've said it yourself
.... you're just dirt roading it in the midwest.
Many people don't like the hood scoop and some get rid of it because of the glare.

That's really what I'm coming to terms with. I think I need all the fun stuff, when in reality, HI/LO 4WD with some sort of traction control is all I need.
Though the hood scoop looks good in the car line, I can live with out it!!
As for the price difference......
When I compare the base packages, the difference is less than $3k.....making more sense to go with the OR.
Buuuuut, they are hard to come by. I asked my dealer to find a Lunar Rock or an Army Green and the allocations just aren't there. If I go SR5 and go with Mag Grey, I'll probably have one next week.

This is really what I'm wrestling with.
Slap on some new shocks, even some expensive ones and some skid plates and you have a rig that's close to a Pro at a much lesser price.
The thing is, I just don't think I'll use the goodies as much as I'd like to think I would.
I mountain bike and love taking trips to CO, but nothing we do requires the capabilities an OR has.
Obviously, I'm really just taking myself out of buying an Off-Road!

Thanks everyone!
As you might be able to tell, this turned into more of me talking myself into taking the cheaper, quicker route.
Other than the cooler colors, I just don't think I need an Off-Road. The extra goodies are nice, but I'd use them maybe once a year.

I prefer lockers. Also do not trust electronic transfer case control.

ORP vs SR5
I purchased a ORP, why ? Resale value and KDSS, i'll probably never use all the gizmos of my ORP but when it's time to sell or trade it'll bring the most money and be easier to sell because it's a TRD ORP. No matter what you do to a SR5 even though its still a great vehicle, it'll never be a TRD OR. I had a 2011 SR5 and my ORP with KDSS is a completely different vehicle. But the Hood Scoop was the main reason

I'd be looking upwards in models personally. The OR is nice but the ORP is nothing to sneeze at.

At 57 I'd waited long enough to finally get what I wanted in a truck, and I wanted the toys in the ORP, and it was a small enough premium over the SR5 given how long I plan to have it to avoid regrets. Will I ever use them? Perhaps, hoping to use some of them. I love the NautBlue, love the heated softex, and my only complaint is, yep, glare in the winter off that hood. I have to find some matt black decal...or maybe a solar panel lol

I just happened to stumble on my ORP last October before all the craziness and I'm really glad I did. I went to the dealer to test drive them and it was there. Tested it out and drove it home the next day. The softex interior, "carbon fiber" pieces, manual shifter plus all the offroad stuff sold me. Looking at SR5s inside I thought "meh, that's a lot of money for that." The Premium interior/upgrades really justified the price a lot in my mind since that is where I'd be spending my time and it was just a much more pleasing place to be. The price difference is minimal and you'll make it back in resale value. Who cares if you don't use the locker or use it 100 times. At least it's there.
