SR5 vs TRD OR

Happy 2022!!

Iíve done a tons of searches and canít find the answer to my specific question.

The down and dirty-
Iím the market for a Ď22 T4R after regretting selling my Ď14 for a 100 Series LC.

Good move for a guy who wants to look cool in the pick up line of my kids school, but not that practical. Needed a lot of work.

Iím patient, so I know I will find one, but Iím wondering how hard I should really try to find a TRD OR instead of an SR5.

I know the SR5 was plenty capable for my needs, but donít want to regret spending $40k instead of $43k down the road.

I know the crawl control and locking diff are wonderful to have, but I never found myself in a situation where A-TRAC wasnít enough. Am I wrong to think that Crawl Control is for people that are going on quite a bit more gnarly roads than what this flatland Midwesterner will do?

Other things to think about

I went with the off road premium. Softex interior a plus and lots of other nice additions over the SR5 and just the off road.
I know, it's more money but there is always the "wish I would have" thoughts later down the road.
Order exactly what you want. I place my build order on November 2nd and took delivery on December 6th. Five weeks to the day.
It will be worth the wait.

The first time that locker gets you out of a bad situation youíll be glad you spent the extra money on the OR.

Can't you just put an after-market locker?

Another point in the OR's favor is you'll probably most of that $3k back when you sell or trade it.

Wait the difference between a SR5 and a TRD is only $3,000??? If that’s the case then I would spend the extra 3K for a TRD.

How has no one mentioned the TRD OR hood scoop?

Seriously though, the additional features and value retained by going with an Off Road make it a no brainer for me.

The cost difference between a SR5 and TRD is much more than $3,000.

No, you don't need a locker. You've said it yourself
.... you're just dirt roading it in the midwest.

Many people don't like the hood scoop and some get rid of it because of the glare.

I personally went with / lucked into an ORP. The Pro is beautiful, but not worth the 70k or so dealers are asking for them.

You do get most of the off road goodies with the Off Road, but they do use the stock suspension like an SR5.

Built on Toyota's site just now:

SR5 4x4 (no additional options): $39,895
TRD OR (no additional options): $41,850

Less than $2,000 swing. Whether or not you can actually get either for that price is a different question!

I went from a 2017 TRD OR Premium to a 2022 SR5 Premium. I used the crawl, rear diff lock, and that other knob thing on the ORP maybe once during the 4 years I owned it. I have used the sunglasses holder in the SR5 every single day Iíve had it.

Same but I had an 18 taco ORDC and never even used the crawl control. Now in a SR5 and never once been stuck.

I bought the exact 4Runner I wanted. The difference in cost between models wasn't significant enough to make the decision for me. I refused to settle.

Only you can decide what's right for you.
