When engaging 4L should the yellow 4LO light blink and chime?

When I'm in 4H I get the green icon but 4L displays both the green icon and the yellow 4LO light stays on and blinks and chimes until I switch back to 2H.

I read the manual but I don't understand from it if the yellow light should turn off or if it stays on to remind you you're in low gear.

I took it in and out of 4L and tried to reverse but it always stays on and Binks.

I have the push-ans-turn 4W knob, not the handle.

If you get just a flashing light in 4L it means the car is not in gear. Sometimes you need to drive forward or backwards for the gear to engage.

If you get a flash and buzzing chime sound it usually means your shift (drive) gear is not in Neutral.

My manual says shifting from 4H to 4L

1. Stop vehicle completely and continue to depress breaks
2. Shift the Shift (drive) lever to N
3. Shift the the front-wheel (4WD) drive to L4 (Shift firmly)

This can be confusing. You can shift from 2H to 4H while the car’s main gear is in Drive. So you would think that to go from 4H to 4L all you would have to do is shift it again but you can’t. You have to shift the main drive gear to N. This is according to my 2017 manual.

So I’m assuming with all 5th Gen, when you shift to 4L you have to disengage the 2H and 4H gears first.

It took me a while to get used to the dial on my ‘18 SR5 when I first got it. In the past I’ve always had the standard shift levers on my past 4x4 trucks.

At first I’d get the flashing light and chime about every time I’d engage 4-LO. But I’ve adjusted and am now used to it.

Basically stopping in neutral, pushing in the lock out button, push the knob down and turning slowly will engage it without much fuss, but it can and usually does take a second or two for the light to stop flashing and the other lights associated with low range to come on.

Thank you..ok so I played with it again today and these 3 lights came on and stayed on. Is this what I'm supposed to see in 4LO and its working correctly? (sorry for the dumb questions)

When in 4lo the vsc and Trac are disabled. so you are good if the 4x4 light is solid.

All good. Those lights are those I alluded to when I said:

Spartacus identified those functions disabled when 4-LO is selected.
