Check Engine / Slippery Car icons stay on

I have a 2010 4Runner SR5 with the manual 2WD/4WD gear shift (not the knob).

Check Engine and Slippery Car Icon both came on the other day after I switched from 4WD back to 2WD on my 2010 4Runner. I read in my manual (paraphrasing) the slippery car icon should go off on its own if the road conditions improve (they did) and the vehicle is going over 20 mph or so. However, the Check Engine light and Slippery Car icon both remain indefinitely.

Vehicle was in Park gear shift, but what may have triggered this is I accidentally put my 4R in neutral (the 2WD/4WD Hi/Lo gear shift) when trying to switch from 4WD back to 2WD. It went to neutral, and I sat there in a parking lot unable to move the car at all for a few minutes until I figured out what I had done. Once I got it out of neutral and into 2WD these two lights came on and remain on.

4R drives fine, but of course it still is concerning. I am not the type to drive it without having it checked out, but I am currently 500 miles away from home and want to go to my local dealership to have it checked out.

Any of this ever happened to you guys?

Thanks

Bring the truck to a complete stop put the tranny gear shift in neutral and egage it in 4x4 low in a strait line for like 30 seconds then come to a comple stop, gear shift in neutral, disengage the 4x4 and put it in 2hi. The vsc light should go off. If it pops back up. Then you'll have to check the abs codes. I don't think it will have a driveability issue even if the light pops back on while you drive the 500 miles.

Read the code. That's the only way you'll find out what is turning the light on. It is normal for the VSC light to come on with a CEL.

my bet is loose gas cap or bad O2 sensor. if I understand these systems correctly: when the CEL comes on, the VSC/TRAC will be disabled along with any other system that puts strain on the engine. Does your DAC work? I could be completely wrong but the VSC/TRAC may be fine and illuminated due to another underlying issue the the CEL codes will tell you

hopefully the suggestion spartacus laid out fixes the problem. the second cheapest solution which might help is a new gas cap

Update:

I double checked the gas cap and cleaned the rings around both the cap itself and the fuel line ring.

Then I did exactly what Spartacus suggested by driving in 4x4 Lo in a straight line for a bit. then back into 2Hi.

While the CEL and VSC lights remained on, I understood in some cases it may take a little while for the lights to turn off, but then also saw on YouTube the suggestion to then hold the A-Trac button for @10 seconds with the vehicle turned off and then turn it on while still pushing it. When I turned it on again, both lights came off without me having to do the additional steps. Here was that video just FYI (Part 5) How To Fix Your Check Engine, VSC, Trac Off Warning Lights - YouTube

All is back to normal.

Many thanks!
