Vehicle Stability Control and Multi-Terrain Select Failure

Hi all,

After my most recent crawling trip, I’ve been having the truck intermittently produce the whole Christmas tree on the dash. Vehicle stability control malfunction, multi-terrain select malfunction, and cruise control malfunction—all appear every time I cold start the truck. 4wd works (both 4h and 4l but not crawl). The lights usually go away after I drive the truck for 5-20 mins and turn off the ignition—next time I start up, no more lights. All the functions work when the lights are off.

Any idea what this is?

I used to have the same Christmas tree pop up about half a year ago (and also after some hard wheeling) except back then 4wd didn’t work. The problem then was a failed front differential actuator, which dealer replaced and the problem disappeared.

Been very tired of these electrical gremlins with the truck. Not what I expected of a Toyota.

Please let me know your thoughts.

My guess would be abs sensor or circuit. stretched dirty etc. Get the abs codes read and go from there.

Visually the abs sensors and the wires are fine. How would you inspect them? Should I just take them out and clean the dust off?

Also, the alignment on the truck has been pretty bad because one of the lower control mounts has been chewed up on a rock, throwing off alignment. Also, the truck never tracked straight even from the factory - the steering alignment has always been off. Could those things cause the electrical issue?

I'm weighing whether to install ABS guards - your experience has me shifting this mod upwards in my priority list.

SDHQ Built Billet ABS Guards

Actually, not sure if the ABS guards would have done something, but a lower A arm skid plate would have definitely saved me. The RCI skids leave the lower control arm mounts very vulnerable to being smashed into rocks - which is what happened to me. I also cracked the CV axle housing by landing it on a rock that went right through the Lower control arm hole—had there been a skid plate, these things would not have happened.
