project farm had done a really good video on portable jumpers. I almost bought one but didn't - old fashioned jumper cables just seem to work the best

not to sidetrack the thread - but yes project farm is a good source

project farm is awesome! So detailed and scientific. Anything he tests out as best is a sure winner.

I got my Gooloo 4000a jump pack because it tested so well on project farm.

have you had to use it yet? I had a GB40 and I knew my battery was on its way out, so I let it die during an extreme cold over the course of 4 days. tried to start it at -32*C and the GB40 wouldn't even get a crank out of the engine. nothing at all. I was for once finally excited to have a dead battery since I knew I was going to replace it anyway when I had the chance. went to project farm after this to research and GB40 tested second worst on their list. go figure, so I returned it

The issue I think with some of these weaker portables is in extreme colds, when most people's batteries die and have no juice left. there's just not enough juice to get it going again from the portable chargers. autowit supercap2 is supposed to be good too. it doesn't work on lithium and uses capacitors which don't drain over time. called CAA, they were swamped and they didn't even show up. so I now have gauge 2 jumpers all the time with me

Another vote for Napa batteries. Probably what I will go with in a few years when the OE Panasonic needs to go.

I returned my GB40 too. But that was project farms fault. lol

Yes, i used it on a 7.3 diesel with a completely dead battery so I had to use the "power mode" and started no problem. Also jumped my 4Runner and a Ram 1500.

I agree, the cold is a problem and long term storage. Having the largest capacity is a big help, and warming a frozen jump pack even if its in your jacket for 5 minuets before jumping will do wonders.

I have to say the GooLoo has some serious CCA, people are surprised how fast it turns the engine.

I put in the north star AGM battery, size 27f, about two years ago. Have been very pleased. At the time, I also did the mod to increase voltage by using a fuse replacement from Australia that’s designed for AGM batteries, and also changed the battery tray from the tundra to fit the slightly larger battery. The 27F AGM battery has served me well. I have a dometic refrigerator, along with an LED light bar and other accessories and I’ve had no issues. The 27F has a lot more reserve power than the 24f factory lead acid battery.

Are you buying actual OEM batteries or are you just buying Toyota replacements?
Since I can’t get the Panasonic here I buy the Interstate cheap from Costco and plan on replacing at 4-5 years.

Many people use a trickle charger with them. Newer cars can be programmed or detect AGM batteries and charge them accordingly, but I don't know about our 4runners, especially older years

I've had great success with OEM and have only ever put OEM in my 4runner and wife's lexus, minimum 650CCA. each one has lasted at least 5 years through canadian winters (wifes 2010 RX with 170k km is on it's second and my 2012 4runner is on it's third with 250k km, actually just replaced it last week)

if you don't have any significant power requirements beyond factory I don't see the need to change batteries. 5 years for a battery is respectable. of course, I know not everyone shares the same OEM battery love that I do

When I needed a new battery for my car, I found good options at local auto parts stores like Advance Auto. They usually have a range of batteries at different prices. Make sure to check if the battery type matches your needs—AGM batteries are great for longevity and performance. Also, consider checking online stores for better deals. Also, I've heard some good things about the ER34615 battery. So, I think it's worth comparing reviews and specs to see if it suits your vehicle's requirements.

Yes, that is original. They ship 4Runners from Japan without a battery, then the battery is installed (along with some other accessories) at the port when it arrives in the US. Thus the batteries in 4Runners are made in USA.

Why would the dealer change out the battery on a new vehicle?

Factory battery is awesome. Lasted me over 8 years. About a year and half ago swapped out to Odyssey. Also due to adding more lights and accessories.

Odyssey is a beast!
