All to prevent a little bit of wear on the plastics? Not worth it. Like mine, a little minor damage is worth squeezing every bit of up travel if you're running hard. The sooner it truly bottoms out, the more stress on more critical parts like hubs, spindles, etc. so it behooves us
FastRunners to not stop the up travel earlier than absolutely necessary. (I'm coinin FastRunner right now.
)
Now if you go long travel, then it's worth it, and kinda necessary with the additional leverage which would blow through the other bumps even faster.
