New Battery - OEM? Optima? Something Else?

Battery is going on 7+ years old...

Weather is in single digits and she def starting to struggle to turn over. Figured get it replaced now before it leaves me stranded.

I havent stayed on current events - is there a must have or highly recommended battery for a 5th gen?

If you want to blow your wad on some innovative battery ideas, take a look at Anti Gravity Batteries. (LITHIUM BATTERIES, MICRO'-'STARTS – Antigravity Batteries)

As a LiFePo4 battery, it's about $850 bucks, but it has a 15% reserve that can be unlocked via remote so your whip always starts, even when you drain it down flat.

No, I don't have one of these, but it's a neat idea if you have a need.

Just get a good Interstate or something similar off the shelf. I used Duracell AGM on my GTO since it sits more than I drive it.

Napa has great batteries. They have an AGM version too.

In terms of lead acid batteries, the OEM Toyota made by Panasonic in Japan is probably the best. The lead acid batteries made by Johnson Controls and East Penn that are rebranded by many companies in America are no where as good.

What caught my eye is the lithium 12V with a battery management system. Disconnects itself if the voltage gets so low it would harm it. No “eating” batteries.

I buy costco interstate batteries lead. the batteries last 7 yrs . I purchased the last battery cost was 85 bucks..
my 2016 4 runner OEM BATTERY still runs good .. cold temps spin fast ..51/2 years old.

the AGM batteries install on sport cars not driving in the snow or rain .. My friend had 2 Lamborghini / Rolls Royce I installed the AGM and I installed a battery computer charger ...

If you want to go AGM I would recommend Odyssey batteries. Definitely one of the best CCA and capacity all in one. Just did a 24F and even in at 0f it cranks over like its summer.

But for regular use any decent battery is just fine. My Stock battery was not turning over well after 3-4 years.

What ever Battery You decide make sure it has the correct positive post configuration.

I Use the Odyssey 34R-PC1500 Fits perfectly with the added bottom spacer (ordered separately for about 5 Dollars)

No Cable mods needed.

Well, let me ask you a question first. What do you use your 4Runner for?

Options #1: Is it stock? Do you just use it as a daily driver or take it camping at campgrounds? If so, I recommend Costco batteries as they have an amazing warranty and quite easy process to get a new one should it fail. Please very reasonably priced.

Or

Option #2: Are you highly modified and built for off road trail runs, have high output lights and potentially adding a fridge in the future? In this case I highly recommend Odyssey batteries. I run a 34R AGM from Odyssey and have been incredibly happy with it.

Happy Shopping.

Northstar, Oddysey or X2 all outstanding AGM batteries. I wouldn't venture into lithium stuff if you live where summers get hot.

if you dont need an additional add ons would just stick with OEM , 7 years is solid for a battery
