I see most members on here swapping out their factory roof racks for these slim sleek aftermarket ones. I have the factory TRD Pro rack and planning to use it for a kayak or two and would like to get a roof top tent. Are the factory racks useless or can I throw on there something like kayaks without other attachments to it? I know for the roof top tent I would most likely need an aftermarket one...just trying to understand the full function of the factory one before I think about going aftermarket.
Weight is your limiting factor with anything on the OEM side presumably. I use 4 OEM crossbars for a roof basket which is adequate for my additional camping items. Had a canoe up there few times. Never any issue. Considered the Aftermarket cross bars for their tie down characteristics and accessories however. Might go that route eventually.

The new racks areally fairly beefy.. You can carry kayaks with out any issues. for a roof top tent good cross bars work with factory rails.
The factory TRD Pro rack that has the two side rails and one rear rail looks like it would be difficult to put a kayak or roof top tent. I personally think the regular non-Pro rack is more utilitarian.

You can move the crossbars to the tip position and have a flat plane for tying down a kayak

The weight capacity of your roof will not increase because you added a Prinsu. Most of these racks add weight while using stock mounting locations, the non-drill ones leave the front part essentially unsupported.
But they do give you more space and look hype on Instagram. Try using the stock rack until you need something else. There is no need to throw 40-50lbs of extruded aluminum on your roof just yet.
