Remote Start/Remote Connect sunscription?

Just read that Toyota will only give you Remote Start feature on the keyfob free for a year? Lame. Will the key fob's still work to lock, unlock, allow pushbutton start, and lower rear window? I read about there being pushback from Toyota owners, but sounds like this decision to milk customers will stand? I assume the Smartphone based Remote Connect is likewise part of the $80 a year "subscription" after the first year?

The fob will still do everything except remote start.

I don't think its worth paying for such a service...why? Because it doesn't work half the time! If they do that, they should really focus on making the app much much better to use and for it to actually work. It's cool when it works that you can start the truck from anywhere in the world and make sure all your doors are locked and windows closed, etc. But if it only works half the time, what's the point? For now I'm half enjoying the subscription for free since it's still pretty new, for the first year, but after that I will not be paying for it unless they make it as reliable as the truck itself.

Not worth it. Aftermarket is the way to go, so many more capabilities customized to your liking. Plus you can choose an app with a monthly fee or just a long range fob.

I am super happy with my Compustar alarm/remote start.

The app, or the fob Remote Start only work half the time? Remote starting your your truck on a cold day sounds nice, but some of the other smart phone app features sound overly indulgent, other than the "Where's My Truck" locator. Does that work reasonably well?

Good to know there are other options :-).

Yes it tracks the truck very well and accurately, and it even measures the driving style, ie, hard acceleration, hard cornering or hard braking and gives a score out of 100. When my wife drives it, her score is like 97-100, whereas mine is a bit less lets just leave it at that.

Starting it from the app doesn't work very well, giving errors such as "cannot connect to vehicle", and to start it from the fob, you have to be very close to the truck, which makes it pointless to use if you have to be that close.

Thanks for the info...so it's actually useful for finding your truck in a big parking lot, or you just forgot where you parked on the street? Or, of god forbid, how about if it's stolen, is the range decent, like the Find My Phone/Device app?

Yes it is that accurate, like when its parked at home, I can zoom in on the map and it shows you its parked on the driveway, and if its in the garage, it shows it in the house. Finding it in a big parking lot will for sure help if you forgot where you parked, but it will be very handy if it ever got stolen, you can track it in real time with a slight delay on the road that its driving on. I'm assuming the app uses the trucks GPS signal for exact pinpoint location. Now if they perfected the remote start to work every time, then it would be worth the $10 a month or whatever the dealership charges in your area. I believe here it is $10CDN/month.

Very cool! I've rented a couple vehicles with Push to Start and it's nifty, but honestly, if the PTS weren't on the vehicle, I'd be fine for the times I'd use it. But up where you are, where it gets pretty chilly, I can see how it would be pretty helpful.
The phone app sound pretty handy!
