Head Unit Upgrade

I just ordered a Kenwood dmx957xr to go with my OEM Audio+ speaker setup on my 2014 Trail. I had a couple questions after ordering (it's going to take about a month to get everything shipped to the audio shop I'm using, so changes can still be made):

1) Does anyone have experience with this unit? Any pluses or things to make you shy away from this head unit?
2) The guy at the shop I spoke with said to retain Sirius XM, I would have to install a new antennae that would sit above the windshield. He didn't seem to think that the factory antennae could be used. I know this question came up before in threads - but I don't remember reading an answer from folks who have utilized the stock antennae when upgrading head units. We did discuss the Maestro unit to retain steering wheel controls and such.
Thanks

1) I've had better luck with Kenwood units than with Pioneer so that's all I can say there.

2) You can use an adapter to use the OEM antenna if you have one but you cannot use the OEM tuner and would have to buy a tuner. SiriusXM SXV300V1 Tuner Enjoy SiriusXM satellite radio with your compatible aftermarket or factory radio (subscription sold separately by SiriusXM) at Crutchfield

To add, I'd use an iDatalink Maestro for the interface.

Edit: The Maestro may allow you to use the OEM SAT tuner. I'm not sure.

I have this headunit, no complaints that I can think of. The Bluetooth CarPlay feature was really the biggest seller for me. Also have the maestro unit installed which is helpful, especially when towing and airing down and up. I had to install the antenna as I dont have any factory antenna.
