Seems like your P rated Wildpeaks hav3 survived some good rocky desert terrain
I don’t know why people keep saying the KO2s don’t handle well in wet weather. I’ve owned 4 sets in the last 20 years and never had a problem and they drive great on the road.

I’ve read many reviews and they are not unanimous in their decision but here is what I think the average are.

Rocks - KO2s have receive more favorable reviews
Sand - KO2s have receive more favorable reviews
Wet Rain - reviews are 50/50
Snow - Wildpeaks seem to have slightly more favorable reviews
Mud - Wildpeaks seem to have slightly more favorable reviews
Road- KO2s Everyone says KO2s are quieter.
Best bang for the buck. Wildpeaks This is pretty unanimous.

Bottom line is that both are excellent tires and the advantage that one tire has over the other I believe are minor ones. The way as I see it you can’t go wrong with either tires.

Glad to read all this information . I’ll be looking for AT tires when I get my 4Runner. Only plan to maybe do some dirt gravel washboard desert trails once a month or so with an occasional trip soirée to Death Valley

Don’t want E tires as I like a nicer on road ride and don’t plan on towing or having heavy loads or airing down past say 25 PSI. Also want to keep tire weight 46lb or less in stock size 265/70/17

Options now limited to P and C load.

Cooper AT3 LT C load 45lbs

KO2 C load 44lbs ✊🏻

Wildpeaks P load 45lbs ✊🏻

Grabber A/TX C load 46 lbs

Toyo A/T 3 P load 39lbs 😬

was leaning to KO2 C load but their side wall is only 2 ply. The other tires all 2 ply as well and seem to have a little better on road manners and better in wet.

Wildpeaks seem to have a 2 ply sidewall but folded over adding more protection so wondering if this gives as good protection if not better protection than the KO2 side wall? Seems max PSI is essentially same for these two tires except Wildpeak rayed P load vs KO2 C Load.

not sure how sidewalls on the others on the list stack up to KO2 or WP. If I wasn’t driving south west desert and just doing soft forest roads dirt/mud/beach I wouldn’t care so much about squeezing out a little extra protection while keeping weight and road manners in check.

with that said for the 5 days a year it sprinkles in northern Nevada I probably shouldn’t care as much about wet road handling of the KO2’s vs the Wildpeaks but I suspect the ride would be softer and less noise with WP’s

Anyone have thoughts or feelings on this they would like to share?

Wildpeak used to be the best bang for buck tire, but I've seen them cost just as much (or even more) than a KO2 these days.

When I first bought a set of Wildpeaks, they were a REALLY budget friendly tire. I bought another set last year and they were still cheaper than others out there (KO2s), but not by much. In the last 6-8 months, everything has gone up though. Buying a whole new set will cost quite a bit more than before.

On my 2nd set of wildpeaks and they're great tires. Had 265's just put 285's on. Ride great on and off road

I have both. Main thing to me is wild peaks are louder after about 20k on them and ko2 are not that great in the rain.

Can’t speak for KO2’s, but everyone I know that lives in the mountains loves them. Love the AT3W’s in mud, sand, rain, and in ALL types of snow - whether in the heartland or visiting mountain friends. They are upgrades over everything else that I’ve owned.

I've ran both K02's and AT3/W's. Currently running AT3/W's on my Runner and had them on my previous 5th Gen as well. Can't go wrong with either tire - K02's have been the gold standard for A/T tires for the longest time and the AT3/W's are a relative newcomer. From my experience the K02's hum slightly louder and seem to kick up small rocks, debris more so than the AT3/W's. For snow and wet traction, I'd give the edge to the Falkens. Been through some severe snow storms with the AT3/W's and they performed flawlessly. Drove from Seattle to Whistler BC in the middle of a blizzard Jan 2020, HWY 99 to Whistler was basically an ice field, and the Falkens handled that trip with ease. No chains, just had it in 4-HI, slow and steady.

Nice pic, but your TRD logo Center cap is crooked! J/k!

Ko2’s

Keeping the thread alive,

I say KO2’s all the way. That being said I’m running a pair of Wild Peaks now cause I got a good deal on them.

Ko2’s are awesome in the sand and the snow

I said KO2s for my last 2 sets. Needless to say they well be the last. 22k miles and there are as loud as rough as hell. Tread is uneven. I have them rotated, balanced and my alignment checked every 5-6k miles. I think I got the duds.

I purchased a set of Falken Wild Peak AT3W after my post here on August 1, 2022

So we now have 8 months experience and 5,500 miles riding on the Falken AT3Ws.
They are a softer, quieter ride than the Goodyear Duratracs with 30,000 miles of wear. Also, the wet weather traction is better. Absolutely no doubt about that, so the Falkens work better for my uses, weather, and road conditions in central Texas.

If I were to move back to primarily mountainous terrain (snowy & rocks), then I'd probably shift back to the Duratracs or buy the BFG KO2 tires.

We try to use the tool that best fits the job.

Thanks again for all the good information here !
