hello, i can't believe i'm getting this error on my dash. tested the truck and the braking seems to be working fine, however the ABS seems to be not functioning. i tried it in 2wd while the car is on ice, ABS don't work. placed it in 4wheel drive, it works fine but not in 4low. i've seen some threads and they ended up getting the abs system replaced. anyone had this and what fixed it?
1. drive start control malfunction
2. braking power low
3. ABS malfunction
4. precollision system malfunction

i can't believe i fixed the ABS related issue on my 4runner. it seems like a software glitch on the system. when those error show up, the truck is drivabable except the abs system stopped working and the 4wheel drive system still works for 4h and 2h but not 4L.

while i was driving earlier, i tried pressing the brake with my left foot while i'm pressing the gas to accelerate and suddenly all the error disappeared. i tested the 4 wheel drive system, 4H, 2H, 4L, atrack, traction control and downhill assist started working again. i tested 1 wheel on ice while in 2H and the ABS worked also. if you have these errors, can you try these fix and let me know? there must be something that must have been done with the braking and gas pedal to activate those malfunction. now it's fixed. i wonder if toyota is aware of those issues.

How'd you get the idea for that?

i have the error, drive start control malfunction and i tried to read the manual and it says these.

When buzzer sounds: - i don't get the buzzer sound.
- brake override system is malfunctioning
- drive-start control is operating
- drive-start control is malfunctioning or
- follow the instructions displayed on the multi information display.

When a buzzer does not sound: - this is what i followed but pressed the brake and gas pedal at the same time.
- brake override system is operating
- release the accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal.

That's super odd, I'll have to file it away in my memory if it happens

Is everything still working? I forwarded this potential fix to my service advisor and he said he forwarded to the tech. We'll see.

yes, drove a few miles this morning to do some errands. everything is back to normal so far. i'll post more in here if it comes back.

by the way, my wife was driving it when it happened after that ice storm. told her to put it in 4while drive - 4H then it happened and called me.

i don't know why when she drives it and our other cars, all kinds of crazy stuff happens. I'm not going to let her drive my 2020 4runner again, lol!

Just a little bit of an update today. My wife was driving it and she said the malfunction showed up again today. When she called me to mention it, it disappeared again. It probably showed for only a few seconds or maybe minutes. It seems to me there's something wrong with connection somewhere. Here's what I will do this weekend. I will unhook the gas pedal wiring and spray the connector with an electrical cleaner.

I also noticed when I was driving it yesterday, got a message the radar cruise control turned off and turned back on.

Well that sucks. Did it happen during snowy/icy/very cold conditions?

We've been told the ABS module they ordered for our 2020 4Runner likely won't be here for another 1 to 4 weeks. That puts the truck potentially out of service for well over 30 consecutive days, potentially 40+ days. I have little faith that the ABS module will fix the issue either. We may be pursuing a lemon law buyback if the module doesn't fix it.

Also, they didn't try the brake pedal/gas technique I asked them to try.

the weather is around mid 20s but not snowing and the road is dry. the truck was very dirty though. i washed it today underneath and sprayed those salt away. sprayed the engine bay too with water to clean it. the temp is around 55 today. i'll check the abs sensor wire and see if there's some chewed wires or something.

many 4runners have rodent wiring soy material .. now back in the old days petroleum has wiring insulation ..

I spray silicone on the wiring harness and I use peppermint oil spray in in the bottle ..

my 4runner 2016 had rodents in the eng area and now it is no rodent issue.

many on runner forums put pictures of rodent wiring chews.. toyota dealerships cost 2500 bucks ..

Do you have upgraded headlights (LED or stronger halogens) or Pro LED fog lights?
