2020 4R needle bearing

Bought my 2020 TRD ORP W/KDSS new in September 2020, right away I notices the same noise my 2011 had with groining noise in front end that goes away as soon as you engage 4WD. With the 2011 Toyota replaced the front end at 34K mi and the fixed the issue. Took in to service at local Toyota dealer and they said this is normal and most all of them make this noise. Vehicle only has 10K Mi, should I call Toyota customer care or spend the money and have East Coast Gear bushing installed and fix it the right way ? Toyota dealer tried to say it was my tires.
I said then why does noise go away when I engage 4WD. They did not know why.

Did you show them the TSB? I'd make sure they were aware of it and push the issue.

Ditto, but the latest I could find on a search is T-SB-0026-15Rev2. Search for a rev 3 came up dry, rev 2 only covers up to 2017.

if you plan to lift anyways, might be worth going with the ecg bushing. Otherwise, TSB and/or different dealership. Make them drive it and go from 2WD to 4WD, so they directly experience it.

Look up this TSB.

T-SB-0012-19
Rev 1 Feb 8, 2019 covers 2016 – 2019 model year 4Runners.
Replace the front differential.

Edit: Here it is;

I would't even bother with warranty because new diff will still have trouble prone needle bearing. Order ECGS and replace DIY. It's easy job not much more involved than replacing front half-axle.

Totally agree. I had a 2019, replaced diff under warranty and the issue came back 10K miles later.

Interesting that this TSB indicates a production change implying a fix, but the thread I linked to indicates dealers are replacing diffs on later models, even 2022.🤷*♂️

I think before they were changing them out with a different differential part number .. an actual attempt to fix. Now I believe they are putting in the same part

Mine is being replaced by warranty in the next couple weeks. They are waiting for the part. Hopefully mine lasts

When you talk to them next try to get more details. Like the TSB number they are referencing. And the part number they will install. Thx.

True statement, had my (MY19) replaced under the TSB at 15k due to noise. Now at 35k the noise is starting to come back and there is a lot of play with the driver side axle. Just ordered the ECGS bearing and will be installing it this weekend.
