For California residents - Much difference in registration between 2019 and new?
Any fellow California residents out there know how much more to expect in Registration fees between a say a 2019 4Runner ORP and a '22? Just trying to weigh all my costs. We were going to look at Used but decided the 2019s were selling for almost as much as a new one, so might as well buy a new one. Insurance doesn't seem to be too much more, but don't have a clue about annual the DMV hit.
Thank you!

Either way you're still going to get rape by our state, IMO I would just go new due to the cost of used ones on the market right now. Also I will assume that on a new one, insurance should be cheaper due to the safety items that aren't on the 2019's. Good luck.

Yeah, they don't even use any lube here in California!
I thought the insurance would be at least the same when I mentioned TSS on the new vehicle, but the agent claimed a newer vehicle repair costs would be higher, even though the parts are mostly the same. Think I'll get a second opinion when the time comes

The insurance bump was only a total difference of $36 a month over the cost of our current vehicle coverage (a '99 4Runner and '84 Dodge PU, neither of which have Collision).
Figured the DMV bastards would get us for at least $500 though

Oh, like those little pit bikes...cool! Wow, $150 does seem pretty freaking steep! I haven't had a bike in years and out of touch.

Two other things to consider too:
- Depending on insurance carrier, "new car" could expire after three or four years. Same car, nothing's changed, but since my vehicle is no longer "new", rates went up a smidge.
- new cars are exempt from smog for 5 years. I do my first smog this year.

Your rates went up after it was no longer considered new?
Nice to hear about the break on the smog .

Guess I could have worded it better. Depends on insurance provider, but my company gave a discount of "new vehicle" for x amount of years (probably based upon part availability, features, etc; who knows, I'm not an actuary). Then I didn't qualify for that discount, and went back to the normal rate.

My insurance quoted me more for a brand new one, which I would have guessed would be less with the Toyota Safety Sense the 2019 didn't have. Maybe adjusters don't know the NADA on a 2019 is almost the same dollar valuation as the 2022?

taxes paid on the sale price...
So depending which county you are in, say it's 9%... then you are looking at like a 2022 @ $60k vs say a 2019 $40k. Taxes are paid on the sale price, so 9% on 20k delta is about $1800. You also need to do smog sooner on a 2019 compared to a 2022.

Are you talking specifically about the DMV fees paid at time of purchase?
Also, are the annual DMV fees based on valuation, or just the year and on a chart somewhere?
