From what I see on the forum there is a lot of these threads, a lot of owners are putting 275/55/20 (31.9” tire) on their stock 20” x 7” Limited wheels (+15mm offset) without any rubbing on stock height without any lifts or modifications what so ever.

So the purpose of this thread is to inform owners on what can be done with a wider wheel and more of an aggressive offset.

To start off, majority of the 20” aftermarket wheels out there tends to be 20x9, however from what I gathered on the forum, there isn’t much information on 0mm offset or negative offset wheels.

If you are running 0mm offset wheels @ 20x9 (which has a backspace of 5”) you should be able to clear on stock height with a tire size of 275/55/20 without any issue and should not need to trim the bumper or heat gun press on the fender liner.

If you are running a negative offset like -10mm wheels @ 20x9 (which has a backspace of 4.5”) on stock height with a tire size of 275/55/20 10ply AT tire with 16/32 tread depth. You will rub on the bottom inner lip of the bumper, inner front fender liner, and front mud guards/mud flaps on a full turn lock or in reverse with a slight turn (how do I know this you ask? Because that was the result of what happened to me when I put this setup on my truck.

From what I saw, I am positive you can fit a 285/55/20 tire with backspacing of 4.5” or 5” if you do the bumper trimming and heat gun press and removal of mud flaps.

So now, without further ado… here is the bumper trimming for noobies just learning how to trim and fit an aggressive offset mag wheel on their truck with stock height suspension.

Time: should take you 30 minutes to 60 minutes (depending how OCD you are)

Tools required:
-Heat gun or hair dryer (heat gun will work better and faster).. Warning – do not be an idiot and touch the tip of the heat gun.
-Needle nose pliers or regular pliers or something that will not melt and can push the inner fender liner when it is hot.
-Dremel with a small fine cutting disc
-Dremel sanding disc or sanding block (for finishing touches)
-White touchup paint and clear coat (Optional)
-Painters Tape
-Alcohol or soapy damp cloth to clean the bumper lip

Notice: skip to Step seven if you know how to operate a vehicle lol…

Step one: Unlock your truck with your key fob by pressing unlock button

Step two: Get into your truck

Step three: Insert key to ignition key slot and turn the key to start the engine!

Step four: Park your car on a flat well leveled road or driveway or garage (if you can’t, I guess you will have to do what I did, in a driveway slope sloping down)

Step five: Turn your steering wheel to a full lock on either left or right for whichever side you want to start with first.

Step six: Now turn off your truck (unless you want to keep it running because you can afford the gas)

Step seven: Clean bumper inner lip with alcohol or damp soapy cloth

Step eight: Use painters tape and fold it in half to stick under the bumper and the other half over the upper half of the bumper (this will prevent any chip paint or harsh bumper damage from trimming it 1/4 “ - 1/2")
Step nine: Use the Dremel small cutting disc @ speed 2 or 3 and Make a few insert cuts towards the front to make it easier to remove the trimmed pieces when you cut horizontal towards outside the wheel well.

Step nine: Once you have trimmed out everything, use a Dremel sanding disc @ speed 2 to shave it even and remove any imperfections.

Step ten: remove painters tape

Step eleven: use alcohol or soapy damp cloth to wipe it clean

Step twelve: use your heat gun at level 1 or level 2 (if you run out of patience) and push the inner fender liner inwards by using either a needle nose plier or any other plier that can push on the fender liner.

Step thirteen: If you don’t want to see the black ABS plastic on your bumper where you trimmed. Use touch up paint to touch up the lip of the bumper.

Step fourteen: Repeat steps for the other side

Step fifteen: double check the clearance of the tires when turning left and right to see if you need to trim more depending if you want to have more clearance.

I am going to follow your suggestions on my right side. And the parts of my left side that are in danger.
I found an overgrown rock last week, with soft sand hiding its depth and height. Hobbled over to a flat spot, removed tire, and used my sheet metal scissors to remove the damaged fender well.
