Aluminum step options for '16 Limited?

to the I just bought a 2016 BP limited and I'm struggling to find a solution for my young kids who need a step getting in. It did not come with factory running boards, which is just as well because I think they look terrible on an already low (stock) vehicle.

I have read a bunch of threads about the Limited cladding and have been searching for a while for a low profile, aluminum nerf step to add. I thought I had found a good N-fab option but just went to order and realized it is actually steel (I must have been looking at a different model that was aluminum and had to rule it out over fitment concerns). I live in MA and really don't want to put steel anything in a visible area since I plan to keep this a long time and know it will eventually rust.

I know people are going to complain that this has been discussed to death at this point but I'm hoping someone out there has found a good solution and can offer a link to their steps and a photo of their Limited. I'm not intimidated of a little cladding modification if needed either. I just want to see the end result on someone else's rig before ordering something online and having to figure it out as I go.

Thanks in advance.

I think the options are really limited for you when it comes to aluminum side steps on a limited trim vehicle. why not get the OEM ones? I took mine off and they are aluminum. you could install a non limited rocker trim and use the aluminum predator steps like some others have done. or just trim using a dremel

Is that why they call it a Limited Aluminum step options for '16 Limited?

The OEM running boards on my Nightshade are TINY. I wish I had a big ol’ flat platform that was at least the width of my shoe but these look like they are half hidden under the 4Runner they’re so narrow.

These LOOK like they’d be perfect except fitment advises they will not fit the Limiteds…

lmao . I have a 2012 and I was actually surprised how wide those running boards were when I took them off. their position and the fact the doors kind of bow out does not leave a lot of foot room. I would be slipping off mine all the time trying to wash the roof, there just isn't much foot room at all on the OEM ones. but for kids they would probably work

if I need to reach the roof I just stand on the back tire or open the door and use the footwell

Those have a hard plastic surface that is very slippery when wet. You don't want those for kids.

I got these: PT92589140 - Running Boards - Anodized Detail - Genuine toyota Accessory

The fitment says they fit an Limited, and they have a rubber surface that is not as slippery when wet. I think they look good. That is why I got them.

If someone has a photo of what needs to be trimmed when installing the predator steps that's probably the most ideal situation for me. I am going for that look but so far I've only found one set that are that style and fit the limited (but they're steel).

Do you know any members who have done this? I've looked through several threads for exactly this but haven't had any luck.

Those are a good suggestion but I'm trying to stay away from the full-length running board look. Thanks for offering a legitimate solution though.

Antman did it. check this thread. note he did this in 2012 when the limited versions didn't exist. I think the mod still applies if you want to use the predators

ANTMAN'S Thread
Perfect, this is what I was looking for. Thanks. Last question; any idea how close the '16 Limited rockers are to Antman's? I'll obviously measure the height myself and figure out what works with my 4runner but his install looks really clean and I'm wondering if the cladding sticks out roughly the same amount; I'd hate to order these and find out the cut edge of the rocker and the top of the tube don't meet up well. If you don't know I can reach out to him and see if he'd be willing to take a few measurements for me.

Thanks again.

I think they are the same. if you look up the rocker panel on toyota parts site it says it fits the early 5th gen up to the late model 5th gen

Antman made that mod in 2012 so he has an OG 5th gen 4runner limited (2010-2013). I have a 2012 so my rocker panel dimensions will be the same as his. if you want I can take measurements for you on mine as long as it doesn't require the rocker to be removed. just tell me how you want it measured and I'll do my best

Thanks for the offer. I looked into it more and agree with you that they seem pretty close from all the photos I could gather. My rocker construction also looks identical to Antman's underneath, so I went ahead and ordered these;

No need to bother you for measurements. At this point it's either going to look awesome or be a total disaster, but I'm willing to give it a shot. I can post a photo once I get around to putting them on if your'e interested.

post a pic when you have it done. I know many people with limited trims are looking at side steps that aren't steel and there are limited options out there. I like the predators but don't 'need' them. thought about just getting the trail rocker trim and no need to cut - just replace. but then that becomes really expensive for a mod I don't 'need'
