Going from a 3rg Gen 4R to a 5th Gen - headroom with moonroof?
We have had a 3rd Gen 4R with a moonroof since 2004. I remember being annoyed with the headroom when we first bought it, but eventually found a seat position that works and don't even think about it anymore. When we hopped into a 2022 SR5, it was deja vu all over again. I played with the seat a little, but didn't seem to help enough. We came back a couple weeks later and the only vehicle on the lot that day with a moonroof was a Limited. I guess the last person to sit in it was my size as there was no problem with the headroom. Is the headroom somehow better on the Limited? Do the seats in a Limited have more adjustments than those in an ORP? Or more to the point, is the headroom less in a 5th Gen with a moonroof than a 3rd? While we rarely open it, I love it on the occasions that we do.

I wouldn't buy a 4Runner without a moonroof.
In my 3rd gen, I had just enough headroom with the seat adjusted the way I wanted it.
I never bought a 4th gen, because it had less headroom than my 3rd gen.
My TRD ORP has more headroom than my 3rd gen.
My anecdotal experience.

I'm 6'2" tall and have no problems with headroom in my '19 TRD ORP with moonroof.

Just what I wanted to hear .
Our old SR5 has manual seats with only basic adjustments, so assume it will be easier to find the "right" position in an ORP with the multi way power seats.
Even though we rarely use it, I think we would always miss being able to open it on certain occasions, not to mention it's a great way to quickly check the load of gear on the roof rack what you're bombing down the highway on a road trip.

It took me awhile to find a premium without a moonroof. I would have needed quite a deal to get a moonroof model. I'm only 6 foot but long torso and don't drive with a gangster lean. My coworker has a moonroof model and in the back or passenger seats my head touches since they're not adjustable, heaven forbid going offroad in those seats. As the driver I could set it low enough but while wearing a hat or going offroad I still can bump. My wife 5', 8" drives the car a lot so I prefer to let her set the seat height and I don't need to mess with anything. Shes mostly legs so forward/backwards doesn't matter.
But I also I dislike moonroofs in general for rattles that develop, leaks, & drain block ups. Like I said if it was cheaper I'd have sucked it up and got one lol.

I'm 6' and long torso as well, which is why I had a little trouble with our '99 initially and asking about the new ones. But have read a few posts on sunroofs now and even some folks over 6' and long torsos are able to find a good position.
As far as the back seats, they won't adjust up and down, but do recline some.
We don't have any rattles on our '99 MR and cleaning the drains hasn't been a problem. But it did develop a leak though, in the weather stripping seam in the front of the glass panel. The butt joint opened up so I squirted some "flowable" into the gap silicone sealer and fixed it.

Does the passenger front seat have height adjustments, or just front/back and tilt?

I'm 6'3'' and fit in my Pro just fine with moonroof.
Plus my son loves to cruise the neighborhood with his head sticking out of the roof lol

I guess I should add I'm 6'2". I was an inch taller but time and abuse has compressed the space between joints...
Anyway, I don't like the gangster lean, I like the seatback pretty close to 90°. I have a 34" inseam. I can raise the seat high enough to hit the headliner, but prefer it a bit lower, and I don't hit my head. If I were wearing a cowboy hat or similar, headroom might be a problem.

never had a car w/out a moonroof.
i used to have an '89 integra w/ a moonroof... i had to lean to the side to drive it. when i got a '93 integra i cleared the roof just fine.... but my arm was near shoulder level when resting on the windowsill... to gain more headroom, the chopped the seats!
i never quite cleared in my '00 sr5, but in my '16 TEP, plenty of headroom, until someone comes and messes w/ the seat height. the multi power seats offers a huge range of adjustments.
i'm nearly 6'0".
