Headlight bulb install help me!

Hello all. So I have a 2017 TRD Off Road Premium and I'm installing a set of VLED MicroLED H11's. I just pulled out a set of Morimoto's that failed about 1 year in.

The problem is that I can't seem to get the new bulbs to stay in the socket at the rear of the housing. The Morimotos stay there using friction from the rubber rings around the bulb assembly itself, and they just slide into the headlight housing.

But, the VLED's (and a set of Phillips H11's I tried also) look like they want to lock into a pronged receptacle instead of just sliding in.

It would appear that I'm either using the wrong model bulbs OR I'm missing a part that is supposed to be in the headlight housing to receive the bulb.

Photo here shows that the housing is a totally smooth black plastic ring that doesn't have any flanges or slots for these bulbs to slide into.

I'm hoping someone here knows what I'm talking about and can just say "oh yeah man you need the blah blah thing a ma jig" and solve my problem. I've watched ALL of the YouTube vids and none of them ever show exactly how the bulb goes in.

Thanks!

Ben

That does not look right....as I recall there should be 3 notches....2 of the same size and one bigger for proper indexing. ( u can see them on the poc of the new lamp)...it almost looks like the old lamp separated and part of it is still in the housing

Put stock bulbs back in and do other drivers a favor.
Edit- sorry, I got blinded last night a few times and I’m frustrated with people running these mega bright aftermarket bulbs.

As stated above those look like the collar for the morimoto bulbs you removed. The collar should just lock into place like a regular bulb. Try getting in there and twisting them out.

Yes, definitely put back the regular bulbs. lol

Or better yet put in some H9's. They at least will work with the projector better.

Solved

Thanks all. Yeah I was being a dummy. The Morimoto collar was still engaged in the housing. Just took a little elbow grease to twist them out. thanks for the help.

Definitely not going back to the stock bulbs, like, ever...

Thought the 2020 were led low & halogen high expect the pro & limited and 21 went led high/low

2020 were halogen. 2021 depends on the trim - SR5 and offroad in 2021 were LED low/halogen high, higher trims (I believe) were both LED. 2022 all trims are all LED. 2021 LED/halogen hybrids are great because they're an easy swap into older models. I don't think anyone has figured out how to retrofit the full LED's (low/high) into older models yet.
