100% agree that those options offer more of what most people want — in greater amounts than the 4Runner — any trim. I guess what I’m saying is we 4Runner folks are more alike than different in terms of what we value, regardless of whether we chose a Limited or a Pro or a TRD. Different flavors of the same ice cream and a very different value prop from just about anything else out there. BTW the 4Runner is still selling like crazy, much to every auto journalists’ utter amazement.
BTW things like “higher end interiors” is another interesting comment. There’s quality and durability and longevity and then there is the perception of “high end”. I love that the 4r is still built in Japan, and the folks who put it together seem to care. It’s incredibly basic, but nothing rattles, it all fits, and it feels like it will last forever. Talk to an owner of a 2yr old explorer/telluride (I have to admit my knowledge of Kia is old). My experience recently renting an 4r SR5 really reinforced this. Nearly 40k rental miles and it felt rock solid.
And, again, thank you for putting a virtual skirt on the Limited. Without your help I wouldn’t have been able to source one. Keep it up!

If you need internet strangers to validate your Limited purchase and Limited self-loathing, just say that bro!

Anything Jeep is a huge no. Terrible quality and resale value.
Explorer ST was something that caught my eye, but hate the fact it's only 3 row seating. Not a bad vehicle though. It was actually my second choice.
No Kia or Hyundai. Tons of issues with my Genesis, and the local dealers were awful. Sad, as I really like the GV70...
I also considered the new Acura MDX, but that baby is $75k loaded, and I'm not wanting to spend that much money.

I don't buy used vehicles. I'm dumb like that. I do see your point though.

This is a good list of comps and I think a fair point overall. All of these have better tech and arguably a higher level of fit and finish initially. 2 of these we shopped (Jeep/Ford), and for me it came back to style (subjective) and reliability (well documented). Based on the experience of friends and family, I wouldn't go near an Explorer or Cherokee. I just have different expectations when it comes to product quality.
As an aside, I wouldn't be surprised if every brand has altered their mfg process right now, but this would scare the hell out of me. What else didn't they put in the car?

This was my goal, but since they were being listed for more than new, we decided we could wait...

The pro already has dual zone climate.
The only 2 things that I wish it had from the limited are ventilated seats and memory seats.
The softex seats are actually quite nice because of ease to clean.
Personally if I didn’t go off roading I would get a Lexus. I had one and it was very comfy, and much nicer interior than a Toyota.
The only Toyota that I would choose over the 4Runner if money was not an issue for an off roading rig would be the land cruiser (rip)

Competition? Old school, simple, n/a, rock solid reliable, comfortable, spacious/box, zero pretense. I LOVE we still have hydraulic steering. I’m weird. I don’t want turbos, or start/stop, or hybrid/assist. LMK what’s out there. For me it was this or a GWagen.

Unless you have slicks, no one should get stuck on wet grass in 2WD lol
If considering the G wagon, why not get a Lexus instead of a 4Runner? Seems much better for your needs

I blame YouTube auto reviewers and their obsession with soft-touch injection molded plastic as a sign of luxury and quality.
Who touches their dashboards on a regular basis anyway? I sure don't.

Just an add on...i hve heard from a few very reliable sources, that the LImited Full time 4WD system is based on the same Torson Ctr Diff that is in the GX...which is the same unit as in the LC Prado...which is a very capable and well followed off-roader in other markets...
not sure why here in the US of A it is looked at as the wimpier trim level for getting dirty.
As for me, i drive an SR5...i aint full of cash to get a Pro, but knowing that the it is 80-85% of the Off-Rd or Pro...was enough for me.

All that matters is that YOU like your ride. I didn't buy my Limited to impress you, nor did you buy your SR5 to impress me. We're still 4Runner brothers, though!

GX and 4R Limited both use a VF4BM transfer case. It is a torsen style center differential. 4Runner, GX, and Prado 150 share the same platform, so they come in a variety of configurations that mix and match parts. The one difference I know if is in the shift options - the Prado allows you to be locked or unlocked in 4hi or 4lo. I don't think you can select unlocked 4lo in the 4Runner Limited.
There is a VF2B (lever operated tc in Trail/TRD OR/Pro) and VF2BM (electric shift in SR5 and other SR5 based trims).
In markets where the 4Runner and Prado 150 are sold together, the 4Runner is the more expensive vehicle. Price is very similar, but the 4R is higher by a few hundred dollars.

Is there any limited slip in the rear diff of the Limited trim?
