No 255/75-17 AT Tires Excite Me

I want to run 255/75-17 but none of the AT tires excite me. I won't run MT or E-load tires because I want decent comfort on the pavement and don't offroad enough to justify them in southern AZ.

I have the Eibach Stage 1 lift with the factory front springs on the top perch for what should be a 2.5"/1" lift.

I don't want to run 285/70's due to the weight and rolling resistance penalties. Same for 275/70's. The weight and potential rubbing issues turn me off of the 255/80's.

In 265/70's I've narrowed it down to the Grabber ATX C-load and Rugged Treks. Feels like I can't go wrong with either as they are relatively comfortable and quiet, decent rain performance, beefier than an SL, but not boat anchors like an E-load, have good warranties and should be under $1k after install, taxes, disposal, etc.

Is there a 255/75 tire you can talk me into?

If you can wait until May, it looks like the BFG Trail-Terrain should be available in 255/75, but will be SL. I'm not so sure that a C load is necessarily needed if it's mostly pavement driving that you are doing.

What's wrong with SL load? I have SL ATX's and I'm not exactly kind to them. They've done fine aired down to 18-20 PSI when necessary. Next set will be 255/80 E-loads. I think the "E-rated beats you up" is overblown on most tires.

I’ve owned the Yokohama Geolandar A/T and the older Firestone Destination A/T (not the new A/T2), and I was happy with both.

The KO2's in a C load only weigh 51 lbs each. I have Wildpeaks in a SL rated 285 that weighs 51lbs.
I had 275/70-17 KO2's in a E load and they weighed 57 lbs and road a little rough. Personally, I would go 285's.

Thanks for the suggestion, but everything I read says they get loud quickly, so I was avoiding them for the wife's sake.

Do these do better in the rain than the KO2? That's my hangup with the BFG's is the rain performance. Too many anecdotes of them scaring people sh!tless in the wet! Plus I had a set on my previous vehicle (can't remember the model) and they wore really funny in the end despite regular rotations.

Our trucks at work run the 265/70-17's with E-load tires and they are kidney crushers on anything but smooth pavement. I'm sure part of that is the leaf springs too. Plus I'm trying to avoid the weight penalty on E-load's to keep the MPG's reasonable.

I'm not opposed to SL's, but since there's not a huge weight penalty in the ATX's for going to the C-load, I thought it would be better long term, try to split the difference.

I haven't ruled out the Firestone XT's but there just doesn't seem to be a lot of info about them. They're C-Load, seem like a hybrid that leans AT vs MT. Weight is good at 40lbs.

Thanks again!
