Wrong oil filter installed?!?

So I just changed the oil today on my (new to me) 2016 trail. 5,000 miles after buying it from a dealer. This was the oil filter that came out. Obviously not the same as the original. Has anyone seen an oil filter like this in a 5th gen?

Thanks

Previous owner used Amsoil? How’s the rest of the truck? I’m thinking close to perfect?

OP register your VIN on the Toyota owners site and go to service history and you can see what the records say for your vehicle in terms of dealership maintenance. Welcome to Toyota Owners

That's a good sign! That oil filter is either a TRD or Amsoil oil filter, both being spun synthetic filter media; hands down the best oil filters available. Typically between the two they cost $20-30 bucks each, so most likely the previous owner was an "Oil Guy" and only used the best to maintain the vehicle.

Ok, this makes me feel better.

I thought the dealer possibly changed the oil and didn’t put the correct one in, just found something that fit.

I too googled the number and didn’t get anything to come up, but didn’t try for too long.

Yes the rest of the truck is nearly perfect. Kind of high miles (125,xxx now) but it’s been an Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma vehicle only.

I have looked up the service records on Toyota and for the first 40-50k the service records are impeccable like you mention. After that it’s kind of spotty. So I’m guessing the maintenance was done by the owner, and he put the best in. Thanks for the responses!

Yes most likely done by the owner, dealer serviced mine up till 55k. I plan on doing the oil changes and most everything else. I mark the dates on when I do services and mileage plus keep receipts. Curious if there is a way to upload records for carfax or something.

I log everything in a spreadsheet and keep all the receipts for any parts or work done. Date, mileage, job, part numbers used, notes.

Can just print it out and put in the glovebox with the receipts come time to sell. Nothing better than finding a giant pile of maintenance receipts in the glovebox when shopping used cars.
