4Runner vs new bronco

I drove my brother-in-law’s new bronco today. It’s the fully loaded one on 35’s. It’s a pretty cool truck the plus is it’s got way more get up and go then my 4Runner. The ride height is awesome and I’m sure it’s great on trails. But I’ll honestly say my 4Runner was much more comfortable. My 4Runner just feels a lot better put together. I wouldn’t trade my 4 runner for one. But a few years down the road I once does gets all the bugs worked out I would t mind adding one to sit next to the 4Runner in my garage!

You nailed it. Tried and true vs the ford? There is a reason why the 4Runner has remained the same for a LONG time. Simplicity. It’s old. No two ways around it, but it is reliable and works REALLY well. I’ll give up a little “giddy up” for that. Don’t get me wrong. I make fun of my 4Runner daily for the “zero to 60…..sometime” aspect

I have a ‘74 Bronco and would love to park a new one next to the old one.

But, just can’t part w the 4Runner. It’s an all around better SUV.

in 10 years you know your 4runner will still be running like the day it rolled off the lot. still TBD for the bronco. hell of a lot money to spend on something that hasn't proven itself. I'd take the 4runner all day

For too many years I lived in eager anticipation of the new Bronco. It wasn’t until last November that I could finally see one in person. It seemed unfinished. It’s got no soul. As if it were designed by someone who had only seen a picture of an old Bronco but had never seen one in person or driven it.

How do the compare size wise & rear cargo space?

I didn’t get into the back. The front seemed similar to my 4Runner. I felt the light seats in my trd off-road were more comfortable.

It is hard to say. The Bronco I looked at was a convertible and the top was down, so it seemed pretty spacious. :-)

I got very much caught up in the Bronco hype and put a deposit down for a Badlands, but got tired of waiting and instead got a new TRD Pro. Lucky me that I kind of backed into buying the better vehicle for my needs. I think the new Bronco looks cool and is better than the 4Runner in extreme off road terrain, but that's about it. Also cool that you can take the doors and roof off, but I doubt I would ever do that. After buying the TRD Pro I ended up (and still am) making multiple runs from Washington State to California on I5 with the 4Runner packed full of stuff and sometimes a Husky 501 motorcycle on a hitch rack on the back. Nice to have a super reliable workhorse to do that, and have it still be comfortable enough to be bearable on the highway. It can do 95% of what the Bronco can do off road too. If I only could have one vehicle no doubt it would be my 4Runner.

To me it looks like a Ford Flex with larger tires , but I haven't seen one in person yet so I'm just basing that of pictures.

I drove one a few months ago and it was louder than any Jeep I ever owned. The 4R is just so much better all around.

I had Bronco parked next to me today. Size wise both vehicles are about the same. It’s not a bad looking vehicle. This vehicle had a soft top. I think one of the nicest feature are the ones with the modular roof top. That said, have you seen pictures of the engine? I would have walked away the moment I saw it. It looks like a nightmare. Any engine that looked that confused would have me question it’s reliability. Plus any engine repair will cost you a fortune because you will have to remove so many tubes to get to anything.

Just look at the Ford emblem and you already know how reliable it is.

Yes, a friend has one and I had the same reaction. Why would there be such a mess of hoses and tubes? It just seems sloppy when there is a premium today on the "finished" looking engine compartment.

I think it is a neat truck, but unless you use it to regularly go off-roading I think the tradeoffs involved in its design will quickly wear thin. The 4Runner may not be as capable, but it is more livable in the majority of normal situations in which people find themselves.

And I could never deal with wheels that big. The ride quality must be dreadful.

Turbo charged engines, especially twin turbo motors always have a ton of wires, lines etc. My two grand nationals were equally as ugly.
