New upper windshield seal/rubber.

Hey all,

I noticed that last time my windshield was replaced that they changed out the upper rubber for what appears to be something cheap as over the past 3 years it has degraded. Has anyone else had this and is it possible to have the windshield shop use the oem seal vs whatever they have? I am due for a windshield but want to sort this out so I have the right approach with them when asking. See attached. The rubber is very flimsy and soft and very much different than the original rubber/seal.

Open to any ideas.

My aftermarket windshield with aftermarket moldings looks similar. The next time I need a windshield my plan is to insist that OEM moldings are used even if I supply them myself. I have no complaints against the windshield, just the moldings look like crap.

Make sure the installation business is willing to use your provided dam. I tried that once and they wouldn't use anything but their parts. They will likely tell you they won't warranty the installation. Just make sure they don't use one of those "T" shaped dams that goes up and rests on top of the roof edge.

It is aftermarket with aftermarket. Insurance won't normally cover OEM will it?

There was no issue getting OEM glass covered by insurance. My new windshield has a Toyota logo.

This is in a state with glass combined under comprehensive, no separate glass policy, if that matters.

New upper windshield seal/rubber.

Can everyone show a picture of the top edge of your windshield and indicate if it is factory original, OEM replacement, or aftermarket replacement?

Same issue here. Didn’t think about this last year so replacement was not OEM. Water dams up and pours off when backing up. The side rubber seals don’t seat down all the way and yes, it was that “T” style that rests on roof.

I am getting a new windshield today but purchased the OEM seal last month and made sure the insurance company stipulated on WO to use cust supplied OEM seal. We’ll see what happens.

I do wish I could find out how this OEM seal is installed just in case they don’t know. I have looked on the line but have not found any vids to help. I took all flares and clipped parts off and replaced when doing a full paint job…you’d think I could figure this out🤦*♂️

Mine looked the same after a Safelite replacement. Called, they came back, did a leak test n said it was fine.

Wish I would have been home instead of my wife.

It’s u see warranty.
