285 Talent Show

Anyone have a line on a good tire comparison thread. I know we've beat the horse in a lot of threads, but I can't find a tire thread comparison in the stickies or anywhere. Please tell me I'm a dumbass and show me the link.

If it doesn't exist (and I can't believe it doesn't) I have to replace my shitty Toyo Open Country ATIIs. They're quiet and work ok in the mud, but FFS someone spits on the road and it's like driving on ice. They're also thread groove dry rotting after six years.

I've heard of recent balancing issues w/ the BFG KO2s so staying away from them. Will look at Falken Wildpeaks, Nitto Ridge Grapplers and, probably, the Toyo AT3s. Very interested in your real world experience with these tires.

Anyone have a line on Memorial Day tire deals?

Good luck with any tire deals, except maybe Costco. Tires are through the roof right now. There are a number of documented experiences here with all of those tires with balancing issues, so I wouldn't count out KO2s for that reason. Having a tire comparison thread would never be well executed because everyone has differing opinions and experiences and it would become a pissing match.

I, for one, have had nothing but good experiences with KO2s. Never balancing issues, they're quiet, no rain problems. I love them.

All of those tires are good choices. Pick the one that fits your budget or you find the prettiest.

Same here, never had an issue with KO2’s. In my opinion, they are a great tire.

There's lots of threads in the wheels/tires section.

Have you looked thru the threads there?

Since I just got my 4R recently and have no real experience with various tires for it, all I can offer is my previous tire experience. Although I will say that the Toyo Open Country A/Ts on the 4R right now are terrible and will be going away soon as well.

Same tire class, different weight rating, I've been running M&S or hybrid (R/T) tires on my trucks (1/2 and 3/4 ton puck ups) for well over 25 years. I've only ever bought 1 set of A/Ts and hated them. I've tow heavy often and have a heavy foot as well and live on the wet side of the PWN so damp roads for most of the year.

I have run BFGs and won't buy another set, ever. Out of the 3 sets I've had over the years, I've had issues with all of them. Balance and traction. 2 of the 3 sets were already on the vehicles when I got them. I've never worn out a BFG tire, they've all had varying degrees of failure before the tread was gone.

I have settled on Nitto tires for my trucks. I've been thu at least 4 sets of Trail Grapplers and liked every set. No traction issues in the wet even with a heavy, over torqued, low geared diesel 3/4 ton and no weight in the back.

I just installed a set of Ridge Grapplers on my '15 Ram 2500 and am very happy with them. They're very quiet and have excellent traction on wet roads and the truck has significant HP & torque adding work done to it.

The tires I removed were Toyo R/Ts and I disliked every mile I drove them. They were noisy and I had traction issues all the time, even when roads were dry. One of them did give me a concern about balance with the amount of weight that was on the wheel from when the tire shop swapped the tires onto new wheels. These tires were newly installed on the truck when I got it and I got about 50k miles out of them until I couldn't handle the wheel spin anymore.

The only set of A/Ts I ever bought was a set of Nitto Terra Grappler G2's and they were garbage out of the box. Terrible traction, they hucked rocks at my 1/4s all the time and they felt soggy compared to previous tires.

My experience is with wheel diameters of 15", 16", 17", 18" and 20" and tires of varying sizes from 265 to 295 widths and various aspect ratios. Most recently I'm running 35x12.50-20 with an F weight rating.
