Here's what I believe; the car has the learning device in it so when a new key is programmed it's the car that make the changes to learn the frequencies from the key. This tells me that a key that works on another vehicle could be programmed to another.
Get ahold of Tom's Keys. They rent key programming equipment for a reasonable fee. They have a lot of info and can almost definitely answer your question. I recently used them to program 2 keys for my rig. They are not smart keys and I know there are some differences there but they do have smart key programming tools. Their customer service is pretty good. I had questions prior to spending any money with them and they promptly answered all of them via email. They also have a few YouTube videos on the whole process but your specific question hasn't been addressed that I've seen.
