Tapping under hood fuse box without pinching wire?

I tried searching but I'm blanking on the correct search terms and coming up empty handed. I ran a fuse tap to the fuse box under the hood (alpharex luxx headlights) and want to close it without pinching the wire. I've seen people unbolt the 10mm in the back left of the fuse box and run the wire through there but can't find a how-to video to open that up. Can someone direct me to a video or just tell me how to open that up to run a wire out of the fuse box without pinching it when the lid is shut? Thank you!

I used a Dremel and shaved a bit off the inside of the cover to make enough space for the wire. From the outside it looks unmodified but gives enough space for the wire that it won't get pinched.

Thatís what my plan originally was. Drill it out and put a rubber grommet there. Then I saw a video where they route it through that back door that has the 10mm bolt and figured that would be better but never could find instructions on how to access that.

Are you talking about the bolted connection for the main power feed into the fire block?

I had a customer who put a nice fuse tap on their Tacoma (parallel style, plugs into the factory fuse slot and has two fuse slots in it one for the original circuit and the second for the add-on) and he just pinched the wire with the cover. I ended up using a razor blade to trim a channel the width of the wire into the fuse block and a smaller one into the cover so that the wire wasn't pinched and used an extra o-ring I had to serve as a seal for the wire in its new notch.

Yes, I believe thatís what iím talking about but not 100%. There is only one 10mm bolt/nut in the fuse box with what looks to be similar to a battery cable, metal ring bolted on it. I saw in this video at 15:34 but couldnít find directions anywhere. AlphaRex LUXX 4Runner Headlight INSTALL - YouTube

Disconnect the battery, remove the 10mm nut, and then use a pick to disengage the two retaining tabs that hold that wire into the housing. The tabs are buried a bit in either side of the plastic housing for the main wire, flash light helps. I wish I had time to take a video or do a walk through for you at work today.

Please keep us posted if you do this. I would like to do it as well as I have a wire that I would like to re-route too.

This is where I got stuck. Couldn't figure out where to put the pulling pressure while fiddling with the 2 pins.

Tapping under hood fuse box without pinching wire?

Oh thatís perfect! Now iím searching for a taller fuse box top since the tap is too high to shut the lid without the tap putting pressure on the lid.

What does the tap look like? The one I saw was relatively low profile, bottom spot for factory, top for new circuit.

Like the one above, should fit fine inside the fuse box with the lid on and clear the adjacent fuses.

Just did this to one of my wires. Wish I knew about this sooner! Way cleaner and discreet install.

Alpharex sends a low profile fuse tap with the headlights but on the 2020, there is a different fuse box apparently. There is a raised section and that's where the INJ fuse is located. Alpharex suggested I try the EFI fuse which allows the lid to close but this causes the running lights to turn on every two hours for 1 minute and 10 seconds (according to the security cameras) so I'm not going to leave it there.

Alpharex also said "pick any fuse that is wired to ignition" so I'm not sure how to find a list of these but hoping to do that and find a fuse on the lower portion of the fuse box to tap so the lid will close.

Hi, curious if you figured this out? I installed GTR Carbides and ran into the same issue with the fuse tap. I just called them and they suggested I use the EFI #2 slot for the DRL tap. Is that the slot you tried with yours where the lights kept coming on?

Another suggestion I heard was running the wire into the cab and using the ACC fuse in the kick pannel but I'd like to keep the wire in the engine bay if possible.
