Yakima Roof Basket questions
Looking for a little roof basket advice. We have a Yakima Load Warrior on our '99 4Runner, mounted to the stock crossbars. I'm thinking it might be a little smallish for the our new '22 ORP , given the slightly larger roof, and would also be nice to carry a little more gear. But it's paid for, and the price of new racks is a bit shocking!
Has anyone compared the Off Grid to the Mega Warrior to the Load Warrior? Do all of them work well with the stock 5th Gen crossbars?
Is a cargo box or hitch basket a better alternative, given the price of gas?

Yes, they work well with stock cross bars. I have run Megawarrior for a while (stock with my truck) and it’s been great. Lots of wind noise though

Cool, I figured the Mega would fit, and yes, they are a little noisy

The Loadwarrior is a bit narrower (38in) than the Mega (48in) and shorter. It sits almost flush with the stock roof rails. The Mega sticks past the edge of 4runner.
Both come stock with either the Trail Edition or the Venture and will fit.

I have the medium sized OffGrid with the extension, and it works fine. Being a basket, of course, not all the fun toys designed for racks work since you don't have t-slots or whatever, but that's probably been a good thing for my wallet. One clear downside is that as it's a basket on top of the cross bars it does stick up much higher, so I am very very aware of the height restrictions on parking garages when i have it on.

Thanks for the info! Yes, our Load Warrior sticks up a bit. Really fun with bikes on when figuring out some gas station or Fast Food drive-through overhangs! Do you have yours mounted to the factory cross bars, or the Yakima bars with brackets that grab the 4Runner roof rails? Do you thing the Medium is about right, or would you have gone for the large if doing it over? Always thought our Load Warrior was a bit narrow, requiring stuff so get stacked up higher, so more wind resistance than wider and lower pile of gear.

I have it mounted on the factory bars. For our needs the medium is fine. I have to slide it all the way to the right when I mount the awning on it so the awning hangs properly, but for just the 2 of us it fits.

Yes, Venture comes with the Megawarrior and the gunmetal gray TRD Pro rims.

Yeah. I have a Venture edition. See pic of the truck with the megawarrior roof rack. I have an extension too, but I need to install some support brackets up front because it extends way over the factory roof rails.

I have the megawarrior and found that on occasion, when loaded, the mounting brackets can smack the roof when off roading. This is because the factory bars are pretty low. Has anyone found a solution or recommend slightly taller cross bars? I was also thinking of having some custom aluminum brackets (thinner) made but I can't imagine that to be cheap.

I haven't off roaded with my Roadwarrior loaded, but noticed the bottom of the brackets are pretty darn close to the roof too when putting it on/off, definitely closer than on our old 3rd Gen 4Runner. Wonder why Totoya dropped the height of the rack/crossbars. Can't imagine the small amount made that much difference in wind resistance, but suppose that's why they did it.
