Passenger Grab Handle Delete

Had anyone done this to make it look OEM? Remove the grab handle on A-pillar and replace with trim similar to driver side that has no holes or lumps. Any suggestions?

Most people wish they had one on the drivers side vs removing what little grab handle assist you get with just the passenger side.

Actually, I use mine a lot due to a "gimpy" knee (Broke knee cap twice)!

I recently bought a T4R 5th Gen and barely grabbed the handle and it came right out...I laughed pretty hard but now I'm in the same boat as you and definetly need replacements that use a bolt and nut instead of this clip nonsense.

For some reason I thought these used bolts! Damn that sucks. Why to the clothes hangars use bolts but for lifting a human you get clips...

I wouldn't add a driver side grab handle, and I wouldn't delete the passenger side.

I don't need one to get in/ out, neither does the wife, but my Mom had an accident and while I was staying with her, that passenger side handle was key plus some brute force on my part to get her in/ out.
I think the kids use theirs in the back from time to time, but they mainly just hop up off the factory running boards.

I'd say it was for the curtain airbags. that's why I haven't added the driver's side one that's available. the ones I've seen for the driver's side bolt in or have some edges that may damage the curtain airbag upon deployment. I'd rather not mess with safety. That being said, grabbing a handle and using it to support your weight and having it give out because it's only clipped in is also unsafe IMO

Jeez! That's impressive... I wonder if that grab handle had been taken out for whatever reason before? Usually if they pop off that easily it's because someone installed them wrong?

The clip method is something Toyota has used for quite a while now, it's surprisingly robust for how "cheap" it looks; but if they aren't installed right they can be easy to pop out.

The clip needs to be mounted properly in the handle when you push it into the hole and then push the plastic plug. If they aren't installed right the plastic plug doesn't expand the clip, it just pushes it in and they pop off easily. (I end up having to strip out interiors at least a couple times a year for rodent vehicles, so you get used to these style of grab handles and their quirks).

As for the OP's statement... It already looks "OEM" because that's how it was designed? I actually like having a driver's side crab handle on my 4th gen. Tuesday I strained/pulled my Trapezius (SP?) on my right shoulder and could not lift my arm much let alone turn my head; that handle helped a ton to get in and out of the 4Runner yesterday while running to the doctor's office and the shop.

It's a nice thing for when you're a little lazy/tired to toss yourself into the seat. But if you're looking for a delete option, I'm not sure you'll find one?

Just mount a fire extinguisher in its place. That's what all the cool kids are doing.

Doesn't look like anyone makes flat trim piece for passenger side. Bummer because there is a panel for driver side with topography and design to have OEM grab handle:

I wound up installing some paracord grab handles from some jeep website and used some drywall toggle anchors as suggested in a YT video I watched. I didn't like the capacity rating for the 3/16 and it seemed small so I went a step up to 1/4 20 and instead of bolts I used hoist rings XD haha. I'll try and post a picture of it tomorrow if I can figure it out.
