TJM Suspensions?

Is anyone running a TJM suspension on their 5th gen? I was suggested a kit by them when speaking to my local off-road shop (who I really trust), but I cant find many people running them on 4Runners. FJ guys seem run them, but they are a AUS company so not many people here run them.

Thanks for the help!

I would start by asking them why they recommend something that's going to be less common and harder to service than the more mainstream offerings from Bilstein, Fox, and King et al.

is it because that's what they sell? There are so many good and flexible offerings from those I mentioned above that I'd have to really be sold on going with something different. Like...what's radically better/different that would compel you to purchase them?

For example: I bucked the trends and went with Radflo on my 4th gen and regretted it for all time.

My personal opinion of course, but it's based on over a decade of both road race and off-roading experience.

Take it from me with experience, don't invest in small/no name suspension companies. Stick with King, Fox, Dodinsons, Elka...

I am kind of 50/50 on that... I have basically a custom Radflo suspension kit on my 4Runner from Overland Warehouse. I off-roaded with one of the owners before, nice guy. They basically worked with Radflo to tune their shocks for the J120/150 platform and after talking to them for a bit I was impressed with the attention to detail they put in making their lift kits that I bought theirs over an ICON at the time (one of the main reasons being they offered a lift kit with 2.5" front & rear shocks with Eibach Springs at a very affordable price and would work with you to pick which springs/shocks would best server your needs). Long story short, Overland Warehouse had to go out of business years ago, last I heard for complicated reasons; but Radflo kept their valving spec and didn't give me any problems when I needed my shocks rebuilt.

So I would say do your research and understand who you're buying from if you're doing small companies; but if you don't want to do that there's plenty of big name companies that will save you the time and effort.

You should educate yourself on TJM Australia if you think they're a "small/no name company".

Was that Glen you worked with? I gave up on Radflo after the third set of “custom valved for T120” rear shocks failed. Also they always rode like dogshit.

TJM is a great brand (I have their bumper), but their US presence is virtually non-existent. They’ve entered and exited the US market multiple times now. Very hard to find their products (in stock) and no customer support.

stick with suspension companies that are supported by your local offroad shop (i.e. can be rebuilt locally).

Check out Dobinsons setups sold by @CrickeyMike on ExitOffroad. Great Aussie quality we don’t see here often. They don’t require maintenance every single year like those overpriced Kings and Icons do. And they do the job beautifully.
