New 4Runner “free maintenance” rundown. Also what’s Toyoguard?

So just got a 22 4r. I’m not sure how the free maintenance works. Need a full rundown of how it works and how long. Also mine came with the Toyoguard option. Which includes oil filters, tire rotations and some other things.

Lastly. Does the Toyoguard add-on start once the free maintenance is over? Since it’s also oil changes I believe. All in all this is a bit confusing. Some clarity would be welcomed. Thanks.

Toyota gave me free maintenance too on my 2020. I used it twice. The first time, it was a tire rotation (5k miles). The second time, they changed the oil. Except they overtightened most of the skid plate bolts, so they couldn’t be removed without power tools. And they also forgot to put in the oil drain gasket. Never went back for a “free” service again.

Look in your paperwork and/or in your glovebox. Documents should be there, if not call your dealership and get them to explain.

I believe it is 2 yrs of oil changes and tire rotation and other service checks at 5k mi intervals.

i asked about this. basically you are getting free oil changes to 40000 miles. 4 years. if you believe you should let your oil go 10,000 miles.

Free dealer 24k mile maintenance consists of:
Stripped skid plate nuts
Oil stained upholstery
RAV4 oil filters
2 hour waits
Upsells
Paint scuffs
Car wash boy gets trained on oil changes
Overfill
Underfill
Stripped drain bolt
Cracked filter housing
Orings missed

Just something to consider value wise... Tongue in cheek but not so much.

This.

I would also add:
Likelihood for not changing oil filter at all and lying about it
Losing wheel lock key
Missing panel clips

Had some pre-paid package for our 2016 when we bought it new.

First oil change was a return to dealership to hunt down my wheel lock key they lost.

Second was a 2-hour wait WITH AN APPOINTMENT. Getting home resulted in missing clips for front valance and stripped skid plate bolts.

Third was me doing it myself in my garage. I do 5K oil changes. Oil filter was DIRTY. Like, never-been-changed dirty. I wouldn’t be surprised if they never changed it. Had a previous coworker who worked for a flat rate style dealership and he had a drawer full of brand new oil filters. Asked him. He said “well when you’re under the gun sometimes you have to skip it”… whaaaaa???

That’s right. Very often dealers (and jiffy lube) would put a hose into the dipstick tube and suck it out. And don’t do the filter. Takes like 5 mins.

Depends on the Dealer. My Toyota service dealer now ,Stapp inter state has great staff and service. But I've had bad experiences with another in our area previously.
