2014+ bugeye headlight and other exterior qualities unappreciation/roast topic
Yeah, boyeeeeeee! It's my 666th post! Let's do this!
I really hate how the 4Runner looks.
Specifically the stupid bugeye headlights. They look like the eyes of a praying mantis if a child drew a picture of a praying mantis and his or her mom praised it way too much. Then the kid grew up, became a Toyota designer, and took it way too far.
Then there's the TSS brick on my 2020 which is LAZY. But at least I don't have a 2022 with the camera on the front. The front camera reminds me of... This is a super specific reference but if you've ever been to a Kinokuniya store and they had a case of those little naked cherub figures with their ding dongs hanging out, the front camera of the 2022 reminds me of cherub ding dong.
The NONFUNCTIONAL and light reflecting hood scoop is dumb. Thank goodness I wasn't stupid enough to fall for that one Seriously, the fact that it blinds you with sunlight is metaphorical salt on the wound. You paid for that junk
The spoiler on the back is so dumb. "Look at me, I'm Lightning McQueen, I go fast!" But this is hardly unique to the 4Runner. My neighbor's Honda minivan has the same stupid thing. I just have to laugh at it.
The big Toyota logo and 4Runner badging on the back is so incredibly gaudy. It's like Mega Blocks. Previous gen 4Runners had much less nauseating badging.
Did you see those schmucks with Limiteds or TRD Sports with those 22 inch rims? They're the kind of gold diggers that Steel Panther write songs about
This one's totally universal to Toyota. Their logo. Whoop dee doo. You guys used to make sewing machines 100 years ago. Now your wussy sewing machine logo is all over my rugged vehicle. I didn't put the heritage grill on my SR5 because I wanted to ride the coattails of Pros. I wanted to get rid of the stupid logo!
But seriously, I wouldn't trade my 4Runner for anything. Do I love it? Do I hate it? In the immortal words of Al Bundy, "Love, hate. Look, we're a family, what's the difference?"

A friend says my ‘18 SR5 looks like an “angry fish sucking a lemon.” The look has grown on me. I care more about how overall the truck has worked just fine for me.
Since mine is an SR5 I don’t have the silly hood scoop. In my younger days I’d love to have a TRD Off Road, but I’m now a senior and don’t do as much off roading. But where I live, in an isolated and rural area where dirt roads out number paved ones, the SR5 works great. As it does when I take it on my favorite hunting trails.
My T4R replaced an ‘02 Tacoma TRD Off Road. Most friends thought its grill made it look like some sort of dinosaur. Those silly Toyota designers. Took me a while to get used to the look, but it was and still is a fine truck (I gave it to my son when I got my ‘18).
I think a lot of auto stylists grew up with the old Chevron cars promo toys, as well as Disney’s Cars movies, some vehicles have that look. The Buick Encore, especially those of a few years ago, look like “clown cars.” When at a stop light I expect to see at least a dozen clowns popping out of them.

Now that's one I can agree with.

New face lifted models of any vehicle always take a generation to grow on me. Perhaps I need to see something even uglier to realize mine isn’t so gaudy.

Sing it, brother! In fact the whole front end looks like an anime mecha designer’s nightmare. The 4th Gen front end was so much cleaner.

Lazy is the right word. They should have put the radar behind the logo. That would have shown some class.

I’ll disagree with you on this one. The spoiler provides a tidy place for the rear wiper to retract into.

This as been a beef of mine forever. Tall rims and low profile tires on a 4Runner, or any other offroad vehicle, is an insult to the vehicle’s capabilities.

Yep. The triple oval is in need of a serious update.

The lines and look of vehicle are so elusive and changing. When you see 4runner on the road, you absolutely don't see bug eyes.
When you open your kitchen door to your garage it is a totally different experience. You see strange bubble-eyed vehicle staring at you that stops you in your tracks asking yourself what you were thinking when you bought this thing.
If I have to choose, looking good on the road is an OK trade off for looking strange up-close sitting in my garage.
I am with you on the hood scoop.
The back spoiler looks ok and it is functional, so I can live with it.

The ones where they paint the center section of the bumper silver, pretending that it’s metal. This basically calls to installing the Warn semi hidden winch bumper.

that's just car/truck forums in general. It's fun to troll each other knowing we all have similar interests in vehicles.
