Speaker upgrade on a 2022 Focal ISToy690

Spoke with a local car audio shop today. they recommended the Focal ISToy690. this comes with two 6x9 door speakers and two tweeters for the dash. I have read a few threads and most recommend just replacing these speakers and not bothering with the rear door speakers.

Is this the best option for money or can anyone recommend a different set up.

The installed price is $600 (Canadian) for this, I really don't want to spend more than $1000 total. Keep in mind I'm in Canada so things are more expensive.

Do I need an amp with this? Better options? Thanks

I had the ICTOY690s and they do sound much better compared to stock. You do not need a new head unit.

Not worth it, at C$600 it is intensely not worth it. You are paying a _lot_ for bolt-in replacement, whereas a set of plastic adapters is just as effective.

I installed them (C$300 for a pair from Crutchfield in 2017) and one of the door speakers seized up within 5 years this spring.

So I had to replace, and replaced both sides with Infinity Primus 6.5" from Crutchfield.ca, which adds in you ALL the extra bits you need to install in the 4runner, no charge (door adapter, wire adapter, tweeter wire adapter, tweeter mount place.)

Shop charge should be an hour to install either option, it is not hard or labour intensive. You can do it yourself easy.

Try the speaker upgrade and see what you get maybe, that’s what I did (Focals front and rear doors). Obviously sound reference improved. But once I upgraded the head unit with the Pioneer 4660 the speakers came alive obviously. I had added a Fosgate powered sub couple years ago and that too sounds way cleaner now. Then again, my head end was 2017 vintage not the new style so have no idea if Toyota amped that up or not. Love the Focals no complaints but as I mentioned the head end matters as does your source audio. Pick a quality speaker for sure. Farmed it all out to my local audio shop recently, I hate taking off door panels… and I’m quite short on time these days.

When I upgraded mine, I was pretty convinced I would use Focal all around, but I ended up only using a Focal subwoofer and enclosure.

The biggest issue for mine was Focal does not offer the upper tier series in a 6x9 component set. While I ended up using Morel, there are many options. Audiofrog is well worth looking into as well, but not sure about their distribution north of the 49th.

I do agree about the h/u lacking, but at least on my ‘21, I was kinda stuck with using it. Once I add DSP, it will really get where it needs to be. That said, adding outboard amplification to high quality speakers really has been transformative. As has a subwoofer. I went with a shallow mount Focal in their sealed enclosure and it is a huge upgrade over stock.

Thanks, I have been looking at Crutchfield. The plug and play adaptors is hard to beat.

trying to decide between the

Kicker 47KSS6904 $349 Kicker 47KSS6904 KS Series 6"x9" component speaker system at Crutchfield Canada and

Alpine R-S69C.2 $649 Alpine R-S69C.2 R Series 6"x9" component speaker system at Crutchfield Canada

Not sure if the Alpines are $300 better with the stock head unit. I will probably replace the rear sets as well with some 6.5 Alpine speakers.

My 15 year old loves mechanical stuff, he's always ripping his dirt bike apart and putting it back together. Might be a good father/son project. Plus I want to sound deaden the truck so I might as well start with the doors then see if I can remove the head liner.
