P0171 p0174
Hello All,
Drove back from Southern California yesterday and on hwy5 my car started to lose power and wouldn’t rev up past 3k rpm and wouldn’t go past 60mph. Threw a p0171 and p0174 code.
Starting the engine, it turns but it takes a good 6-7 seconds cranking then turns.
Basically drove it back 60mph all the way back. Replaced MAF with a brand new one, PCV valve. No leaks.
Recently got the fuel pump recall and I’m expecting it’s pulling in air but not enough fuel? Has anyone else got these same symptoms after fuel pump recall?

Might be related but I had similar power lost at one point like this. Ended up an animal built a nest in engine bay and chewed a few wires. I dont recall if the dash lit up though, its been a few years.

P0171 OBD-II Trouble Code: System Too Lean (Bank 1)
Since is only one bank, would not be fuel pump (besides fuel pumps don't add air). Could be a leak in the vacuum system or air getting in somewhere else.

@ PAKM4N
How long ago did you get the 20TA02 recall done?
Does the vehicle start up quickly after the initial long crank? i.e. if you crank it, let the engine run for 10 seconds, the ignition off, wait 20 seconds, and then start it, does it fire right away or take a bit to crank still?
I've seen a couple times (and have had it happen to me once) where one of the clips that holds the fuel pump retainer onto the housing body can sometimes not fully engage and will become unclipped. Usually it's one of the two that is seated around the pressure regulator that's located inside of the fuel pump housing, all it takes is one of the clips to not be seated fully allowing the regulator to slightly popout of its bore. If it's not seated properly it'll let pressure bleed off because the o-ring isn't sealing and result in poor fuel pressure. What's worse is that it will hold for a bit so you'll think the vehicle is fine and then after a short while it'll pop loose and the vehicle will have similar symptoms to your original post including lean codes for bank 1 (P0171) and bank 2 (P0174).

Hey thanks for this!
Got it done in 02/22.
Have at most 500 miles on it since recall.
So initial, first crank. Takes about 6 seconds. Then the next is the same.

If you have a way to test fuel pressure, you could rule that out pretty quick. Though it may be worth to ask the dealer if it's related.

P0219 OBD-II Trouble Code: Engine Overspeed Condition
Is your engine racing (high RPM)? That could be caused by a large vacuum leak (vacuum hose not attached), or vacuum hoses cross connected. Could also be cause of the other code as well (lean on bank 1).
Also possibly the idle speed control system or throttle body.

Throttle body clean

See if you can borrow a fuel pressure tester, I'm starting to suspect that the fuel regulator got dislodged.
Should be about 45psi to 48psi at idle and should hold about 21psi or higher after 5min of sitting with the vehicle off.

Take it back to the dealership that did the recall.
Not same vehicle, but daughters engine wouldnt go past 3000 rpm. Fuel evap canister was bad.
Reason I say take it back they had to take fuel tank down.
I bet the removal of tank and new fuel pump is related.

Where do I tie the fuel pressure too?

I had the exact same thing happen nothing but issues first tons of evap codes after the fuel pump recall now this weekend took a little road trip about 2 hours away. Started throwing codes P0171 and P0174.
6-10 second crank times and just overall seems to be running poorly. Pulled MAFs sprayed it off with cleaner and that did nothing can't see any visible damage to vacuum tubes.
So frustrated with this and its a 2019 with 18.5k miles...

Seems like a bunch of lube techs performing this recall on your vehicles. Ouch

Honestly.. I've watched so many youtube videos now I can probably drop the tank and replace the fuel pump my self.
I'm gonna pick up a fuel pressure tester and see if I can figure out how to hook that up.
