DIY for replacing Limited "wood" dash trim?

Hey folks. I spent some time searching for this and didn't find anything. The plastic looking fake wood dash trim (the "bar above the glovebox") is kind of bothering me in the Limited and I'd like to replace it with the black bar in the other trims. Does this thing just pop off? Thought I'd ask before I take my trim tools to it and start prying.

my gen 3 SR5 had real wood trim all over it, as an added option i guess. some was kinda nice, but all over was just too much. i looked at replacing the whole center trim... before realizing it was overlayed.

subsequent models did away with the real wood, and used wood grain plastic. my guess is yours is such, in which case you'll need to replace the trim.

Remove the lower airbag and all the screws inside the glove box and below the glove box. The whole assembly pulls out at that point and then you can unscrew the trim from behind. A lot of work for something you could wrap much easier

Nightshade bar looks like black anodized aluminum. See if it’s available.

I looked at these myself but an very anti-3m stuck on overlay trim in vehicles. Just sucks that OEM replacements are crazy expensive.

Yeah, exactly this. Went with those third party covers for that reason of not wanting to deal with taking it all apart to get at.

A glove box door for some years of Dodge Viper is $1000. Crazy what manufacturers get away with.

I remember being in the waiting room of a dealer service department in the late 2000s and hearing an advisor quote to a customer “if you wanted to build a car from the ground up; but had to buy each part separately, it would cost something like $200,000”

My wife told me to take some super fine grain sandpaper or steel wool to it to dull it. Probably too risky…

Like above post - vinyl wrap would be your safest/easiest option. You can always undo it if you find you don't like it down the road.

Thanks folks. Would love to hear from anyone who wraps. I assume a local wrap shop would be able to bang this out in 30min?

Those overlays are only barely more expensive than a decent vinyl job.
