Looking for a rear bumper without long leadtime

Looking for a rear bumper with spare tire and accessory carrier on dual swingout, or just a single swingout with tire carrier. I like the LFD, Expedition One, and Proline but lead times are as long as 14 weeks on these. I'd prefer to get the bumper on when I do wheels and tires (upsizing to 285s) and I think it might be pushing it to try to get through the summer on my current set of tires.

Anybody know of any bumpers in stock somewhere or on shorter lead times? A long shot, I know, but I thought I'd ask. Also, any recommendations for other bumpers to check out would be greatly appreciated.

expect long wait times if you buying direct from fabricator. Or browse the FB marketplace, bumpers come up from time to time, because people change their mind or they sold their 4runner before their bumper arrived....

That's been my experience with other fabbed parts (and even some manufactured parts) for my 4Runner, Mr. Blah. I was thinking 6-8 weeks based on experience with other stuff like my sliders, rack, etc. Lead time quotes double that caught me off guard.

Not complaining about the lead time - supply chains are jacked, can't get materials, labor shortages. I get it. Just thought I'd post here in case someone ran across someone somewhere that had one, or knows of an installer or reseller sitting on one.

There's one on FB in FL (I'm in NC) and they don't want to separate it from the front bumper (which I don't want/need). Also quite a haul down there to pick it up and bring it back. Sadly, I'm considering it even with our current gas prices. Hoping for a better option...

the lead time is actually far worse than what they quote you for bumpers. Take the time they quote you and double it. If you get it before then, you will be happy. If you don't get it before then, you won't be disappointed.

thanks to instatards and goobtubers, everybody wants the same thing.

I ordered my rear bumper last August and it wasn't completed until March. I was quoted about a 18 week leadtime at the time of my initial deposit.
Most fab shops are backed up not including any shortages on parts (specifically for me it was the spindles). Almost all rear bumpers are built to order, but you can try calling them to see if someone didnt pay or backed out. It's a long shot, but its worth trying unless you find one for sale on the forums locally...they pop up from time to time

good luck with your search

Worst part for me was knowing I would need to cut up my factory bumper to mesh with metal bumper and praying in the 30 some week lead time I didn’t screw up the factory bumper beyond its future use.

Good luck! Custom made items and instant gratification do not go hand in hand. You picked the wrong vehicle if you want stuff immediately, especially quality made custom items.

Our rear bumpers are our longest lead times (our most labor-intensive product) but they are still at 6-8 weeks right now. We also have modular carriers that can be added or removed!

Many local metal fab shops could build one. It might not be super cost effective. But you could potentially get it faster that way. Biggest problem is that it's really hard to find good local fab shops vs the hacks. I've seen some really bad stuff and some really good stuff.

My rear bumper protection skid can be fabbed up in about 4-5 hours. I think that's what it took me to do it the first time using what I happened to have in scrap material laying around. If that would get you through, it could be an option to take my pictures to a local shop and ask them to duplicate it. Rubicon Trip Report - AND Minimalist Rear Bumper Protection (Bolt On)

I don't have a 4Runner currently so I can't make you a copy and I gave that one to a friend when I sold mine so I don't have one to copy. But the design is dead simple to fabricate. All you need is about 6 feet of 1.5 or 2" tube or pipe (either works for this if you have the tools to bend it) some thin gauge plate (maybe 11ga or 1/8" - span is short and it's fully supported so it doesn't need to be heavy), a little bit of 1" flat bar, and some ?x4" angle (2x4 or 3x4 is ideal) and typical metalworking tools.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the info.

@Victory 4x4 thanks for the post. I've looked at your stuff in the past and don't know how I missed you guys so far during this search. I like the modular design and your lead times are much better than others for sure. I'll be in touch if I'm ready to proceed.

@Jetboy - thanks for the link. I hear you about local fab jobs - I've seen some truly great work and some, well, not so great work. I've talked with a fabricator (know him personally) and could go that route. We'll see.

@Brandonium I hear you. I'm accustomed to lead times. Definitely not looking for instant gratification. Just looking for options that might not take as long as others. Some others on this thread have provided some great options that I hope other will find useful as well!
