Thule Bars on Gobi Rack / Hullivator.

Hey all,

I have a GOBI stealth rack and have been trying to figure out how to get a Thule Hullivator mounted on this rack. It looks like there are two routes I can go.

1). Get the 60" elevation cross bars from GOBI and see if I can mount the Hullivators to that or

2). Adapt THULE crossbars to the rack itself and then install the Hullivators.

Has anyone with a GOBI rack attempted this? I have been talking to REI but they cannot say with any certainty if the Hullivator will mount to non THULE round bars. In my search for THULE cross bars on a GOBI rack I am also coming up short.

Figured I would toss this out in the wild in case anyone out there has been in a similar situation.

get the 450r rapid footpacks and some pro evo crossbars or wingbar evos. the footpacks should wrap around the gobi side rails. make sure you have the right length of cross bar so there's some overhang. this way you don't need to be concerned about using the carrier on non thule crossbars and trying to make that work

Ah nice! I was not aware the 450r would work on the GOBI.

I don't have a gobi - but I did own the 450r packs and they were great, very high quality. I'm a big fan of thule . I remember a post on etrailer a while ago where someone asked the exact same question you did. I found it and linked it below, basically saying same thing I said in my original post

I was doing some searching a while ago on kayak mounts so found myself on etrailer

Considering that you have some experience with the 450r do you think they are good about not damaging the finish of whatever they are mounted to? I just want to make sure I don't mess with the powder coating.

You attached to the removable crossbars or does your GOBI have the built in crossbars? Could you snag me a pic of the feet?

Thule Bars on Gobi Rack / Hullivator.

Hey, yeah I have the moveable/removable Gobi crossbars (a good thing since it allows you to accommodate different boat lengths). Sorry I’m out of town at the moment, but can post more detailed photos when I get back. The Thule attachment mechanism (feet) are really straightforward and only take a minute to remove/attach to the Gobi once you’ve set them up the first time (I pop them off when I don’t have the boat on the car).

If you’re interested as well you can look into the Yakima showdown which I have installed with Gobi crossbars

the 450r are excellent. the strap is heavy duty and coated in a nice rubber. no plastic or metal contacts the side rails. I had them mounted on my 4runner for about 1 year also through the entire winter. no loosening at all. the only gripe I have about them is they make the crossbar sit up just a tad higher than I liked

the solution wish posted is more elegant and if it works for you, probably a lower cost. the 450r footpacks are around CAD $260 for 4, plus you need to buy crossbars on top of that, and locks if you want to prevent theft
