Tips for new 5th Gen owner

Hi, everyone. I am the proud new 2nd owner of a 2017 TRD Pro. I bought this from a Nissan dealership so they couldn’t tell me much about it. I did some research but I was wondering if some of you guys could tell me some of the features of a TRD Pro. Much appreciated.

Here a collage of the Toyotas I have owned in the past and my new rig:

There have been some reports of it not working, but if you sign up for the Toyota Owners online portal you should be able to pull the v-spec on it giving you all the features and options.

I dont have the TRD pro but I dont think these matter. A couple of small items that make a big difference.

-Glove box grid/organizer
-Center console grid/organizer
- Center console tray
-Rear storage hack (where you basically pull out the trays over the wheel humps and use it for storage and they snap back in). I think this was from AntMan.
- Amazon has some velcro webbed pockets which are great for the rear seat back to store little items in.
- Limo tint the sunroof if you have it. Really oddly positioned.
- Husky or other floor liners
- Buy a carista and you can mod all the dealer controlled settings yourself. (Like the ECO graphic and the seat belt chime)

These things made the entire truck much more livable.

My 2 biggest issues with the 4runner are the lack of storage and the throttle by wire.

I haven't done the pedal commander yet but it's supposed to be awesome. I know Orange Virus finally released their 4runner tune and I need to look into that as I would prefer it over the pedal commander since it also remaps transmission.

Pedal Commander is about $300 while orange virus tune is around $7-800.

I know you didn't ask for a mod list but these are tips I thought of that make it better on the daily and help abate some of my OCD

There a cool thread, something to the effect of... Things you didn't know about your 4runner.

Can someone give me the cliff notes on these? Does 4WD need to be engaged to use these?

Really? You can't spend 10 minutes looking it up?

The knob on the left is crawl control. It acts like a 4x4 cruise control. It takes over both acceleration and braking and lets you select a speed between 1 and 5 mph.

The knob on the right is multi-terrain select. It tweaks throttle and brakes to control wheel spin under various conditions. Rock and mogul settings require 4L, mud and sand work in 4L or 4H.

I rarely use either. The rear locker is useful. Most terrain can be negotiated by using 4L, shifting from auto to a lower max gear, and adding the rear locker when required. Practice two-footed driving to keep the RPMs above idle and control speed with your brake.

The previous owner had the frame coated with some type of liner.

Thanks a lot old Tanker. Much appreciated. Can't wait to test it out. I'm coming from a 3rd Gen so all of this is new to me.

And it's already rusting. Should've Fluid Filmed that thing instead.
