Elka shocks
I was wondering if it would be worth upgrading my bilstein 5100 to a set of elka shocks? Has anyone done this?

6112’s to Elka, like trading a copper penny for gold.

I personally wouldn’t discredit the Bilstein 6112s that harshly. They are a great bang for your buck shock upgrade for like 90% of people.
What’s your reason to upgrade? Are the 5100s shot? Are they not keeping up with the type of off roading you typically do? Or you just looking to change it up?

I thought the 6112’s were jarring offroad. Progressive vs digressive shocks. After wearing them out and having to replace them I wish I would have bought the Kings I wanted in the beginning, as I would have been fairly close to price on Kings with a rebuild. Two sets of 6112’s vs Kings then a rebuild. When time came to replacing the first original set of 6112’s Elka came to market and with some research and calling around I was sold. Couldn’t be happier with there product and especially the customer service after my purchase.
I thought the 6112’s were great in the beginning, but then I realized I wasn’t being honest with myself.

I completely understand as I went from OEM to 6112s to custom Kings. I only ever found them jarring whenever I tried keeping up with my friends on any fast paced whoops.
Are the my Kings better than my previous 6112s? Hell yes! But I still don’t think most 4Runners need or warrant anything much more than 6112s (or something equivalent). Some of that money saved could go into other things…like better gear or gas nowadays lol

That would depend on your driving style and what stage Elka kit you would be going for. If its from 5100 to the 2.0 Elkas its probably not worth the upgrade, but if you are gonna do some harsher/fast paced wheeling upgrading to a 2.5 body and resi could be worth the upgrade

I found the 6112’s to be harshest at slower speeds. Digressive shocks (6112’s) become softer as you gain speed.

On the topic of Elkas, I like that they are aluminum body etc but I have been seeing a bunch of Elkas with broken shafts recently on the 4runner fb pages. seems to always be the ones rebranded for toytec.

Do you know if it’s been the fronts or the rears? Completely snapped or bent?
I don’t do FB so I’m not aware of this.
I wonder if there’s a difference with the toytec vs Elka, I would assume not much?

always fronts, completely snapping right at the joint where it connects to the lower arm. The Toytec are rebranded Elka in different color. I think I saw 2 cases of this last week sometime?
I was also considering Elka for my next upgrade but not if they will snap like that. Will be looking at King/Fox when the time comes.

If you want details you will have to go and find it. It will take me too long to go back and look for it as I coincidentally happened to see it, and don't regularly check either. I will word it better as Yes I "definitely" saw 2 pictures of broken shocks. no details were given though. One was was the originally poster and another in a comments showing they had the same thing just happen.

I did/do look online...No broken elkas that i can see.
One guy had low nitrogen.
Couple had the front lower eye wallow out.
Seemed like there may have been a mention of some-something with the low speed adjuster, one guy tossed out there.
Sorry if it sounded like i was calling you a lier there jdm-v35.
I REALLY like my Elkas, they really shine in fast off-road.

No problem and no offense taken. Also something to note is this only seems to be happening on the toytec branded elkas. Not sure if contruction or QC is different as they are cheaper than elka branded... elkas.
