Add cargo space for road trips?

I really hate how the rest bottom seats fold effectively creating a “wall” and limiting sleep length - so occasionally I’ll remove one or both sides for more space.

Is there anything else I can “easily” remove for road trips? I’m imagining the seat backs are far harder to remove? And at least the passenger seat has airbag sensors so I’m imaging that isn’t a great option either?

I think it depends on your definition of "easy" - this video (start about 4:30) shows the bolts that need to come out for the rest of the rear seats.

I removed all portions of my back seats. Creates so much extra room. Did this 5 years ago and never looked back.
I bought some extra mounting bolts and had a coworker weld on a chain link to the top of each mounting bolt head. With four in the front near where your ankles would be and four in the back near where the seat belt buckles would be. I’m then able to run cam buckle straps front to back to hold things tight. Works great for storing recovery boards, hilift Jack, and many other items. Then made a platform above it all that’s even with the height of my rear drawers.
Best part is it brings a lot of the weight down lower.

How long is the road trip? On road? Off road? Camping? How much are you packing?

We packed clothes, large First Aid/medication bag, C-pap, my walker and three people with luggage, 3 Xerox boxes of gifts for friends and relatives. Walker went on roof rack until we hit SoCal (from Washington State) and dropped my niece off. Also had backpack with 2 cameras, stereo/CD bag, refrigerator, sterile water for the C-pap, shovel & Hi-Lift (those were locked to the roof rack), tool bag, portable CB radio. All for 3 weeks (we were, however, motelling it). Also snacks, etc.

Also (blatant politicking) I have an Airbedz that fits in the back of the 5th Gen 4Runners listed in the classifieds!
