Actually, 12 MPG towing with that load doesn't seem too bad; you mentioned some long hills but was most of the trip on level ground? Up here in the mountains, I bet it would be closer to 9 MPG at best. But still, impressive!
I am toying with the idea of a supercharger too along with 4.56s but also a brake upgrade for when I get another 4R. I have been preparing myself as the cost the new 4R (TRD ORP Prem or TRD PRO) with those mods along with all of the other off-road mods I want (and use) with turn into it a +$70K truck. Making a will as I am sure my wife will
me.
Congrats on the FJ! A good friend of mine just restored his 1970 after years of total reconstruction and V8 engine/tranny swap plus lift, custom paint, and so on. Amazing machine. Yours looks like a great build too. Have fun!
