Does this CAI suck in hot air?
Hi
I am interested in this Cold Air Intake system from SBFilters: Best Cold Air Intake for 2010-2021 Toyota 4Runner / FJ Cruiser
I don't expect any HP increases or anything, I just love the sound from the videos I've heard.
But when doing research, I also saw a few people mention that it sucks in hot air, whereas the stock system, sucks in colder air.
Does anyone know if this is actually true or not?
Thanks!

there is a port for secondary air intake in which case yes it can suck in hot air if you use it. or you can plug it and keep it a 'cold' air intake, basically like stock
IMO the factory intake on the 4runner is pretty damn good. these aftermarket intakes don't really improve anything except sound. they will also oil up your MAF sensor. put the $ into a TRD exhaust if you're looking to spend it. then maybe a TRD CAI for the hell of it since you already have an exhaust but use a dry filter

Ive had a similar intake on my 5th gen for 90k miles (AFE Momentum GT Pro). It has a similar removable rubber plug that allows you to pull air from the stock location as well as the engine bay when it is removed. So yes the intake would be pulling air directly from the engine bay if the plug is removed. The plug on mine is much smaller and does make the intake fairly louder when it is removed.
If you do go down the intake / exhaust rabbit hole I would recommend the same AFE intake I own and look at adding a maf calibrator so that your vehicle can take advantage of the new components. As for oil getting on your maf sensor I haven't had any issues in 4 years. Sounds good under hard acceleration and does not drone under normal load.

Totally agree, I love my AFE Momentum GT and the URD MAF calibrator really helped the truck respond better to it, I have the oiled filter and my maf is clean as a whistle. The AFE also connects to the stock intake hole and pulls air from the fenderwell I've had mine for 3 or 4 years as well and love it, to me it's way better quality than the S&B.

It's good, but not great. The 4Runner doesn't get good gas mileage to begin with but I noticed about a 1 MPG increase with the URD MAF
